Hi Y'all!
I can't believe October is already here! This year sure has flown by!
October is National Pizza Month, National Arts & Humanities Month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, National Bullying Prevention Month, National Disability Employment Awareness Month, ADHD Awareness Month, Down Syndrome Awareness Month, LGBTQ+ History Month, Filipino American History Month, Italian American Heritage Month, Polish American Heritage Month, German American Heritage Month, National Work and Family Month, National Book Month, and Adopt a Shelter Dog Month. Whew! That's a lot of October!
So, in honor of the month, I think we should appreciate some art, check the girls (😉), adopt a dog, read a book, learn a little history, maybe donate to a cause that matters to us, celebrate all the things that make our communities interesting and wonderfully different, and eat some pizza (And, If you know me, you know that I LOVE PIZZA. If I could eat only one thing for the rest of my life, pizza would be it!!)
In the Studio
It's been really hot here in Texas, so much of my recent work has been happening inside and at the computer! I've been creating digital mockups and printing proofs and final images for several new pieces in my Whispers of Water series, both welded and etched pieces.
I've also been spending time planning and applying for shows for 2027. Yep, I'm already thinking about next year's art show schedule!
Mystery Art Series
I've mentioned my Mystery Art Series before, but don't think I've ever really explained how it works.
The idea is simple:
- You choose a size (no smaller than 16" x 20").
- You tell me about yourself.
- I create the artwork.
- You see it for the first time when it arrives.

Before I begin your piece, we talk about your life, your experiences, places that are meaningful to you, things you love, memories, colors, ideas, or whatever else might help me understand you. We can communicate through text, email, or phone. A short questionnaire will also help me get to know you better.
I compile all of that and head into the studio. From there, I take the creative reins. You get to step away from the decisions and let me interpret what you've shared in my own way. The colors, imagery, composition, materials, and sculptural elements all come together as I create.
And then the surprise arrives at your door, the first time you see the finished piece.
The Mystery Art Series began in 2020 as an experiment in trust, intuition, and creativity. I've always loved the idea that the conversation between an artist and collector could become part of the artwork itself.
Looking Ahead
Fall is here, and I'm getting ready for several upcoming Texas fall and holiday art shows. Dates and details are below.
Outside the Studio
We recently saw Mrs. Doubtfire Musical at Bass Concert Hall. We had a great time, and the show was really good! Thank you Cari, for the tickets!
We've also been spending time with family and friends we haven't seen in a while, which has been a really nice change of pace after such a busy summer of traveling and shows. It's been good to slow down a bit, catch up, and enjoy some time together.
Thank you, as always, for following along, coming to shows, visiting the studio, collecting my work, and sharing what I'm creating with your friends. I appreciate every one of you!
Cheese the Day!
