SCDRP News and Notes

Joseph Ortiz, a young visionary and entrepreneur hailing from Bayamón, Puerto Rico, has a rich academic and professional journey. He graduated from the public education system and continued his post-secondary studies at Ana G. Mendez University, Cupey Campus, earning a bachelor’s degree in applied sciences with a specialty in Social Sciences. His journey also includes service in the United States Army. Joe is trained in aviation operations and has worked as a technician in the aircraft maintenance industry for several companies. He founded DCJet Services, which operates in various states and Puerto Rico. For two years, he has owned the PuroClean franchise in Reston. He established the first PuroClean franchise in the Caribbean: PuroClean of San Juan. In September 2022, he officially launched his business with an expert work team, focusing on the restoration of properties affected by the passage of Hurricane Fiona. His commitment to his homeland and his entrepreneurial ventures is evident in his dedication to the values that define him and PuroClean: integrity, honesty, and compassion.

Ángel A. Crespo-Ortiz is a Safety, Security, and Emergency Management consultant with a growing private practice. With vast experience in incident management, he puts his capabilities in emergency response, damage mitigation, fire and explosion investigation, and incident and disaster command at the disposal of PuroClean of San Juan and its clients. He has over 20 years of experience in public service and has passed through every step within the Puerto Rico Fire Department (PRFD) rank system, becoming state fire chief in 2013. Under Crespo’s command, the PRFD was the first in public opinion among local state agencies on the island. Crespo’s main concern was the complete transformation of the PRFD, implementing a reform package that entirely improved the agency’s performance.

Things we're excited about....

Cool Down P-Town!

Virginia Wesleyan University and the Center for Sustainable Communities are partnering to learn more about extreme heat in Portsmouth, VA and create community-driven solutions to protect vulnerable communities. In July 2024, community volunteers will collect heat data by driving around the county with temperature sensors attached to their cars. That data will be used to identify the areas most at risk for extreme heat and guide a tree-planting campaign to create shade. The project will emphasize community input and participation.
