We've Got it All!
(seriously, we really do)
|
|
It's PRIME TIME! Prime Time summertime eating that is. Heirloom tomatoes are here, sweet corn is here, peaches are here. Blueberries, blackberries, cherries, cantaloupe, plums, peppers, eggplants, green beans, Yukon Gold potatoes, Walla Walla onions, cukes and crazy Sicilian Cucuzzi squash (as shown above). You can get all this and so much more at the market right now. Savor every delicious moment of summer - whether it's the simplicity of a perfect tomato sandwich, a hot buttered ear of corn, or a warm slice of peach pie with a dollop of freshly whipped cream.
Hot weather shopping advice: Dress in light colored clothing, hydrate well before you leave the house, bring your insulated bags (carts are helpful too), shop early and don't let the heat keep you from all this summer deliciousness!
PRO TIP: Pack a few tupperware containers; they're great for keeping your berries or cherry tomatoes from spilling over in your bags.

This week's featured veg at Salvaterra's is the Yukon Gold potato! Nothing beats the flavor of a freshly dug, rich creamy potato and these gold potatoes do not disappoint! Fresh potatoes have enough flavor to stand alone with a sprinkle of salt and a drizzle of butter. Substitute browned butter if you're looking to kick it up a notch!)

The first heirloom tomatoes are finally ripe and ready at Cabbage Throw Farm! Time to grab some lettuce, little gem, or romaine and Breakaway Farms Bacon to make the perfect summer BLT.

The summer blooms are coming in full force at Holy Cow Farm. That means sunflowers, zinnias, and celosias will be stealing the show in this weekend's bouquets. They'll be accompanied by chocolate lace flower and the last of the feverfew. There will also be bunches of dahlias, sunflowers, snapdragons, and beautiful purple and white statice (which are great for drying). We hope you'll brave the heat and come out for your weekly dose of flowers!

You asked for it and it’s back for a limited time only!! ORGANIC BEEF GREEN TRIPE MEATBALLS!! Tripe is the stomach of ruminant (grazing) animals including cows, buffalo and sheep. The stomach chambers systematically break down grasses with digestive enzymes, gastric juices and amino acids. It’s green and right out of the animal; and that means it still has pre-digested plant matter which is an excellent source of fermented probiotics, enzymes and fiber!! These treats are as smelly as they come but your dog will go bonkers over them! Baked green tripe is the gold standard of training treats!!

This week Susan wants to tell you about some soaps you may not be familiar with. Teels Hill's Vitamin Seaweed offers a true spa experience - bathe yourself in Norwegian Kelp, filled with enriching minerals. Susan adds a blend of vitamin enriched oils that are both detoxing and relaxing.
And then there's the Scarborough Fair bar, yes like the song of the 70's, parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme. Before pouring, Susan adds hemp seed oil which retains moisture and helps keep skin hydrated and healthy.
