Aviation Spotlight
The Tuskegee Airmen
The first black military aviators in the U.S. Army Air Corps (AAC), a precursor of the U.S. Air Force. Trained at the Tuskegee Army Air Field in Alabama, they flew more than 15,000 individual sorties in Europe and North Africa during World War II.

Curriculum Spotlight:
Helix Aviation Academy staff will teach students every minute of each day in everything that we do!!!
Leslie Owen Wilson defines curriculum as:

“Anything and everything that teaches a lesson, planned or otherwise. Humans are born learning, thus the learned curriculum actually encompasses a combination of all of the following — the hidden, null, written, political and societal etc.. Since students learn all the time through exposure and modeled behaviors, this means that they learn important social and emotional lessons from everyone who inhabits a school — from the janitorial staff, the secretary, the cafeteria workers, their peers, as well as from the deportment, conduct and attitudes expressed and modeled by their teachers. Many educators are unaware of the strong lessons imparted to youth by these everyday contacts.”

Newton's Laws of Motion (First Law)
Newton’s first law of motion states that a body in motion tends to stay in motion in a straight line, and a body at rest tends to stay at rest, unless some outside force causes the moving object to stop, to change direction, or to change speed—or causes a stopped object to move. This is sometimes called the law of inertia.
You experience Newton’s first law when you’re riding in a car and the driver slams on the brakes. Your body is in motion and would keep going right into the dashboard if you weren’t wearing your seat belt. The seat belt exerts a force that stops your body from moving. (That’s why cars have seat belts and why you should wear them!)

Great Habits of Successful Airmen
“We help students develop habits at Helix Aviation Academy”
Calm Under Pressure
The natural disposition of many pilots is that they simply don’t get ruffled or freak out when things go awry.
Emergencies don’t happen every day (thankfully!), but if and when they do, the pilots that are going to get out of the situation in good shape are the ones that don’t let panic or fear grip them, and focus on the correct and logical course of action.
This doesn’t mean that calm pilots aren’t worried when things go wrong. It simply means their priority is in dealing with it.
Positive Response to Pressure
Like the first habit, this one often sees the best pilots finding the positive response to whatever pressure they come under. Their reaction is not anger, pessimism or outbursts, but logic and realism.
This isn’t just in emergency situations, but in dealing with flight planning, delays, passenger disruptions, weather, and aircraft technical issues.
