Mr. Werner Menzel
It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I share with you the passing of our dear friend and Past Director and Past Vice-President, Mr. Werner Menzel. I was just informed of the sad news today by his granddaughter Laura that Werner had passed away on December 10th.
He meant so much to The Toronto Sportsmen’s Association and all of its’ members. Being an active member for many years, Werner loved the sport and being able to pass on his vast amount of knowledge.
Werner was a long time Director of the Toronto Sportsmen's Association, instrumental in many projects, an asset to our association, and an inspiration to all of us.

- Firearm Safety Training Instructor
- Director & VP for TSA
- Life-Member of TSA
Our Education program was headed by Werner until his health didn't allow him to continue in 2015. Up until then, his courses continued to over-achieve. During Werner's last 2 years of teaching courses, The TSA Education Team proudly provided 38 courses with some 469 students achieving their Firearms and/or Hunter Education Certificates. He was an excellent Instructor and encouraged shooters to enjoy the sport and be safe.
Back in June 2014, Werner was awarded a 35 Year Hunter Education Award at the Hunter Education Conference! At that time, Werner had been our Hunter Education Instructor here at the Toronto Sportsmen’s Association for 35 Years!
He earned many of the TSA Awards, including the Special Appreciation Award, and the Sportsmen's of the Year Award. His knowledgeable discussions were always welcomed at all of our Executive Meetings.
I will personally miss his calls and jokes that he used to like to pass along! He always had a love of his family and his dogs.
On behalf of all of us at the Toronto Sportsmen's Association we would like to express our heartfelt condolences to all of Werner's family and friends. Please keep them all in your thoughts and prayers during this sorrowful time.
Memorial Service:
Mount Lawn Funeral Home, 21 Garrard Road, Whitby ON, on Monday, December 19th from 10am-12pm followed by a service in the chapel at 12pm.
Service at noon followed by a small reception on site.
