STATE COORDINATOR'S REPORT

Wow, the weather is warming up, and riding season is finally here. Let's ride, ride, ride!

At this writing, Spring Opener is just around the corner, and I hope everyone who came out, enjoyed the music, food, vendors, and, most importantly, the incredible people who make up ABATE of Washington. Events like these are only possible because of the volunteers who step up and lend a hand. We can always use more help, so please consider volunteering for next year.

As many of you know, this will be my final newsletter as your Pro Tem State Coordinator. Serving in this position has been an honor and a challenge, but ultimately, it has been a privilege. I want to express gratitude to every member, chapter, officer, volunteer, and supporter who has contributed their time, effort, and passion to protecting motorcyclists' rights and strengthening our organization during some challenging experiences.

Whether you organized events, worked security, attended meetings, supported a chapter, recruited members, advocated for motorcycle rights, or simply renewed your membership and stood with us—YOU make a difference. Every effort, big and small, helps keep our organization moving forward.

As I step aside, and welcome Kevin Billings as our new State Coordinator, I encourage everyone to continue building and supporting your local chapters, supporting ABATE of Washington, and supporting the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF). The work of protecting our freedoms on two and three wheels never ends, on all levels, and it depends on each of us staying in the game.

Thank you for your trust, your support, and everything you have done—and continue to do—for our motorcycle community.

I wish you safe travels, & good roads ahead.

Thank you, and I'll see you down the road.

SAFETY AND EDUCATION

Rider Training Report

On June 13th 5 intrepid riders mustered in at South Seattle Community College for the first Gymkhana class.  They started out on a couple of low key warmup runs to get the hang of things and then shifted into some more “technical” cone obstacle challenges that made them work their vision, braking, and tight maneuvering skills.   They finished up with tight entrance sweepers and chicanes.  That stuff really required all hands to be as accurate as possible, and everyone was up to the challenge.  I did get some play time in the runs, but I also got a chance to observe and offer pointers.  (That is how I finance my lavish lifestyle 😉)  I saw lots of improvement from a bunch of seasoned riders.

Until next time, ride safely and have fun.

PUBLIC RELATIONS

Hey everyone!

Fresh out of Spring Opener and have to say, these good people who glued this event together with no experience did a FINE job! If you weren’t there, you totally MISSED out!

Congratulations to all of the winners of the Raffle, The Bike Show, the Contests both official and unofficial! Thank you to Donovan and crew for putting on the Poker Run! Susan kept all the volunteers with gas in their tanks and Kevin kept us all safe with his security crew! Diana was non stop ALL weekend Thurs-Sat night at the merch booth keeping the information and merchandise on point! Kat Bolton was our EMT on staff and no incidents other than a wrist wrap were reported.

The vendors were plentiful and had great quality stuff!

The Alaskan dumplings and those sourdough cookies left me with the MORE’s! Excellent food all the way around!

Our cold lemonade never ran dry and the variety of vendors was fantastic! I hope they ALL come back next year!!

The music was rockin, the fire was warm, and the positive attitudes prevailed even when the rain tried to dampen the fun!

Lewis County Chapter cleaned house on the Legislative Day Awards for highest number of members who showed and also the highest percentage of a chapter to show. Folks need to step in and get that Freedom Flag from them next year! (January 21, 2027)

Thank you to all who stopped by the merch tent, and for the raffle supporters! You ALL were truly amazing!

All in all a good time was had by most, and if you didn’t become an ABATE member to get your discount ticket, then do it now, https://www.abate-wa.org/join-abate-of-washington and save throughout the year as well as supporting the fight for motorcycle rights!

Together, we make a difference, and that prevailed this weekend. A lot of togetherness, teamwork, and remembering the WHY behind what we do.

I’d like to share a heart-filled “THANK YOU” to all of those who stepped into the chaos, throughout the last year, and showed us how the fight for Freedom of the Road is bigger than any one of us.

They set the example of leadership in hard times. Many of them will be seated as our new Board members in July at the Board of Directors (BOD) meeting on July 18 at 11am at the Tacoma VFW.

Remember we are ALL volunteers, doing the best we can to help our community.

Feel free to lend a hand, provide solutions, not problems, take a small piece, help out when you can, and above all….remember, we all share the road.

THE MRF REPORT

It always amazes me, how I seem to shout from the roof tops (is it just my own roof?) and yet I still have people ask me what the deal is with the MRF?

What the deal is…I mean… do they mean… what IS the MRF?

Well, yes… that.

We have community members who still do not know what the Motorcycle Riders Foundation is, or what they do.

That means Donovan and I (and any other Freedom Fighting advocate) still have A LOT of work to do.

I then place the invisible hat on my head and go into my State MRF Rep mode. Beginning with how ABATE and the Motorcycle Riders Foundation are essentially the SAME THING, but on different levels.

One is a State level, and one is a National level.

BOTH are about the right to keep our lifestyle and freedom to ride.

BOTH are about hard working volunteers, stepping up to DEFEND that freedom.

BOTH are about community, fundraising for the cause, and spreading the word.

The similarities are too numerous to keep mentioning them, but if YOU don’t know then WE need to talk.

If you want to KEEP your internal combustion engines, your ability to ride without being profiled, to be SAFE from being Autonomous Vehicle (no driver) road kill, to get parts for your bikes (and cars, too) and then repair them then WE NEED YOU to support the Motorcycle Riders Foundation with your MEMBERSHIP!

They have a full-time lobbiest in Washington, D.C., Rocky Fox, who is there on our behalf, making sure motorcycle rights are represented.

They also have great representatives across the states, helping spread the information.

Donovan “Foghorn” McCartney and I can help you or your organization spread the work of the Motorcycle Riders Foundation, reach out, let us know.

JOIN the MRF today!  www.mrf.org/join-the-mrf

Your membership helps the Motorcycle Riders Foundation stay in the fight to keep the Right to Ride!

Tell them Kim Adair sent you.

See you in the wind!

MOTORCYCLE RIDERS FOUNDATION

The Future of Motorcycling will be decided by those who show up

Every rider has an opinion about the future of motorcycling.

Fewer riders are willing to do something about it.

The reality is simple: the future of motorcycling will not be decided by the millions of riders who stay home. It will be decided by the people who show up.

  • The people who attend hearings.
  • The people who meet with lawmakers.
  • The people who learn the issues.
  • The people who build relationships.
  • The people who are willing to invest their time before the fight begins.

Gary Sellers Recognized by AMA

The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) proudly congratulates Gary Sellers on his induction into the AMA Hall of Fame. The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) Hall of Fame honor recognizes Gary’s lifetime of dedication to motorcycling and the rights of America’s riders.

For decades, Gary Sellers has been a tireless freedom fighter for motorcyclists in Ohio and across the nation. Since the 1970s, he has stood at the forefront of the motorcyclists’ rights movement, helping build the foundation for the freedoms riders enjoy today. As a founding member of ABATE of Ohio and its legislative agent for ten years, Gary has spent a lifetime fighting to protect the rights, lifestyle, and liberties of all motorcyclists.

Grassroots Advocacy Still Wins Battles

Proof That Grassroots Advocacy Still Works Every freedom that motorcyclists enjoy today has something in common.

Someone fought for it. Someone attended the hearing. Someone wrote the letter. Someone met with lawmakers.

Someone refused to accept that riders should simply take whatever government or special interests decided was best for them.

Knowledge Is A Weapon

Good intentions don't win legislative battles.

Information does.

The riders who are most effective in protecting motorcycling freedoms are not necessarily the loudest voices in the room. They are the riders who understand the issues, know the facts, and can confidently communicate them to lawmakers, regulators, and decision-makers.

MAC To Meet In July

The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) proudly congratulates Jay Jackson on his appointment to the Motorcyclist Advisory Council (MAC) at the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Jay was previously appointed to the council before it was dissolved last year, and the MRF is grateful to see his expertise, leadership, and commitment to motorcyclists once again recognized through this reappointment.

His longstanding advocacy for riders and deep understanding of motorcycle safety and transportation issues make him an outstanding choice to serve on the MAC.

Who Will Carry The Fight Forward?

Who will be sitting in these chairs ten years from now?

Every movement eventually faces the same questions.

  • Who comes next?
  • Who will testify before lawmakers?
  • Who will organize local riders?
  • Who will monitor legislation?
  • Who will protect the freedoms that riders enjoy today?

The answer is not found in Washington. It is not found in state capitol buildings.

It is found in riders willing to become involved.

For more than four decades, experienced advocates have passed their knowledge, strategies, and lessons learned to the next generation at Meeting of the Minds.

MRF Thanks Rep. Andre Carson

The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF), joined by a coalition of over 50 motorcyclists’ rights organizations and small businesses, recently sent a letter to Representative Andre Carson of Indiana thanking him for his leadership during the United States House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure markup of the highway bill. During the committee debate, Congressman Carson offered an amendment and delivered thoughtful remarks in support of protecting motorcyclists from unfair profiling. His comments highlighted the importance of individual liberty, equal treatment, and respect for all road users.

Hello ABATE,

North Kitsap Chapter had our annual anniversary Hurricane Ridge Memorial Ride on June 7th. We didn't have much of a turn out but those who attended had a great ride. Weather cooperated (no rain and dry roads), we even had some sunshine up on the mountain. We honored 16 souls (list attached) from the last few years. We will miss them all but know they are all in a better place with sunshine on their backs, dry roads and no traffic.

If you're interested please join us next year, June 6th, 2027, 1st Sunday of June.
