We've run the gamut from beautiful, sunny days that promise spring, to bone-chilling cold these past few weeks and there's likely more of the same to come. So, if cabin fever has gotten to you, here's a list of things to do in our community through the month of February and into early March. 


One thing to note: Should there be cold and icy weather, some events that I have listed here may be cancelled or postponed. Check the links or Facebook pages to be sure before you head out. 


And please, please remember to Shop Small and support our locally owned retail businesses and restaurants - especially when planning your Valentine's Day celebrations and gifts. They are worth your support!

TICKETS ARE NOW ON SALE FOR THESE SHOWS AT THE GMA

Below is the list of upcoming performances at Greenville Municipal Auditorium (GMA). Tickets are available at this link. And be sure to follow the Facebook page for the GMA.


Collin Raye, Friday, January 31st, 7:30pm. Country music legend (and former Greenville resident) Collin Raye brings his collection of hits to the GMA. From "Love Me" to "That's My Story" to his new album, "Scars" with a title track written by his brother Scotty Wray and Tony Ramey. It should be a wonderful night of great music. Tickets: $49-$125.


Endless Summer: American's Beach Boys Experience!, Saturday, February 1st, 7:30pm. Expect sing-a-longs, beach balls and Frisbees to be flying as the #1 Beach Boys Tribute band, Endless Summer, sings about surfing, hot rods and Surfer Girls! Get ready to have “Fun Fun Fun” and “Good Vibrations” for a night to remember! Tickets: $25-$55.


The Aluminum Show, Thursday, February 6th, 6pm. Watch as aluminum tubes and foil come to life, transforming the stage into a futuristic playground. The performers manipulate these materials with extraordinary precision, crafting a visual spectacle that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Great family entertainment. Check out the video here. ELVIS: In Person starring Matt Stone & The TEC Band, Saturday, February 8th, 7:30pm.

Widely believed to be the most authentic representation of the King, the show’s star, Matt Stone, was recently named by the Elvis Presley Estate as one of the Top Elvis Tribute Artists on the planet. Matt portrays the King in his prime…the way he should be remembered! Tickets: $29-$99


Rhythms of Resilience: GMS New Gen Step Team, Sunday February 16th, 5pm. For generations, American university students have witnessed the vibrant, tuneful and colorful display that is step dancing- a style of percussive dancing popularized by historically Black Fraternities and sororities in which the dancer’s whole body serves as an instrument, creating its own beat with footsteps, handclaps and vocalizations. Greenville Middle School Step Team members will celebrate this tradition with their performance. Tickets: $10.


Three Dog Night, Thursday, February 20th, 7:30pm. For over five decades, Three Dog Night has been captivating audiences with their unique blend of rock and roll. With chart-topping hits and a string of unforgettable albums, they’ve cemented their place in music history. Now, they’re bringing their legendary sound to the GMA for an evening filled with your favorite Three Dog Night classics. From the soulful melodies of “Old Fashioned Love Song” to the infectious energy of “Celebrate,” you’ll be singing along to every word. Tickets: $25-$149.


AFTER THE THREE DOG NIGHT CONCERT, THE GMA WILL CLOSE FOR SEVERAL MONTHS AS A NEW SOUND AND LIGHTING SYSTEM IS INSTALLED. This promises to make future concerts and events more exciting than ever!

Annual Daddy-Daughter Dance at Northeast Texas Children's Museum

On Saturday, February 1st, from 6:30-8:30 pm, the Daddy Daughter Dance, one of the most popular events held each year at the Northeast Texas Children's Museum in Commerce, will take place. This year's theme will be "Princess Ball". The event will include crafts, dancing, food, and photos (not included in the price). Play time in the Children's Museum will also be included. Tickets will be $35 per daddy/daughter pair until the day of the event. Each additional daughter is $12. On February 1st the tickets will go to $40. L.A.W. School: Sign up now for the Feb 4th Class!

Greenville Fire/Rescue Department offers classes on Living & Aging Wisely aka "L.A.W. School" co-hosted by GFR and Superior Healthplan. The 2025 schedule is all on Tuesdays: February 4th, April 8th, June 10th, August 12th, October 14th, and December 9th from 1:30pm-3:30pm at the Fletcher Warren Civic Center, 5509 Business Hwy 69. They will provide in-depth info on topics that are designed to help you stay living independently in your home longer. Prevention is the best cure! February's Topic is Tai Chi for Seniors and senior resources available from from the Area Agency on Aging. Attendees will also get a late afternoon lunch that you can eat onsite or take home, as well as a chance to win door prizes - all free! Pre-registering helps GFF plan for meals and utilize the sponsor's donations prudently! Landon Winery is busy in February!

On Thursday, February 6th, it's "Paint Your Pal" night at Landon Winery. Choose your friend, get your tickets at this link ($40 per person or $75 per couple), then email selfies of both of you to How Great Thou Art. When you arrive, you'll have a pre-sketched canvas and all supplies ready for you to paint. Complete information is available at this link. Every ticket holder 21 and older gets a complimentary glass of wine. Additional wine and food are extra.

Every Wednesday is Wine Down Wednesday at Landon Winery. You can enjoy half price bottles of wine on site - along with yummy meat/cheese boards, flatbreads and small plate treats. You can also take up to three bottles for at-home consumption at the same 50% discount. Landon’s wines have won a number of awards for their outstanding quality. And if you're looking for an incentive to try them – Wine Down Wednesday is the perfect time!


And now Mimosa Mania is now every Sunday - $9 Mimosas by the glass or $36 for a bottle of bubbly with four juices to mix your own.

Sip & Pour Candle Making Workshop on Sunday, February 23rd, from 2-4pm. During this class, led by professional candle maker Lenda Fidelman, you'll learn the art of pouring candles and you will decorate your own custom candle to take home with you! Barrel Room Tours are so much fun! - On Saturday, March 1st, Landon Winery will offer their Barrel Tour and Wine Tasting at the Downtown Greenville location, 2508 Lee St! It takes place at 2:00 pm in the winery. It's 2 hours of tapping barrels and learning about wine, how it's made, how to taste it and how to appreciate it, hosted by one of their exceptional winemakers! If you enjoy wine, this tour shouldn't be missed! $59 per person. Tickets are available at this link but walk-ins are also welcome. The Barrel Room Tour is a great thing to do with out-of-town guests, too!

February Activities at W. Walworth Harrison Library

I continue to be amazed at all the activities at the W. Walworth Harrison Library. I've listed a few highlights for February. Keep up with all the activities on the Library's Facebook page where you can get more details as well as the latest news and just-added events. Here's the link to the February calendar of activities. The library is located at 1 Lou Finney Lane.

Here’s a few of the upcoming events and activities:

  • Saturday, February 1st, 11am: Pop-Up Storytime at the Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum. Hear a story or two and take a tour of the museum.
  • Monday, February 3rd, 6pm: Anti Valentine's Party for ages 10-17
  • Saturday, February 8th, 3-4pm: STEAM Saturday (all ages) - participants will be learning about the planets in the solar system and painting them.
  • Saturday, March 8th, 10am-noon: Touch-A-Truck
  • Saturday, March 15th, 10am-4pm: LitCon 2025 at Fletcher Warren Civic Center. There will be a whole section on this event in next month's newsletter. It's epic!

AARP Tax Help - If you need help with your taxes, head to the W. Walworth Harrison Public Library! They are hosting the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers again this year from February 5th through April 9th. They will be at the library on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays between 10:00am and 2:00pm. All appointments must be made online at this link. Once you've made your appointment, you will be given an application reference number - be sure to keep that number! You will need it when you arrive at the library. All registrants must also fill out an application package prior to their appointment, which you can pick up at the library or request via email (send the request to 56051910@aarpfoundation.org with your appointment number in the subject line). The service is free although they do note that some complex returns may be out of their scope of work. For all appointments after 10 AM, ARRIVE 30 MINUTES EARLY so they can review your paperwork.

Events at Live Happy Lane Winery

Live Happy Lane Winery is a wonderful place to enjoy a glass of wine and delicious food. Their beautiful new building The Duncan, and its spacious patio are great places to meet friends and hang out. Live Happy Lane Winery is located at 2879 Live Happy Lane, which is just off Bethel Rd behind The Oaks Country Club. Keep up with what's happening on their Facebook page. Here's a rundown of what's happening there...


Weekly Wine Bingo Night takes place every Wednesday from 7-9pm, and it FREE to play! It's a fun midweek break with the opportunity win fantastic prizes, including Tasting Flights, Glasses of Wine, Bottles of Wine, Delicious Desserts, Flatbread Pizzas, and other items. Must be 21 to participate.


They also offer a Date Night Special for two every Friday from 6-10pm.

  • Flatbread Special: For $55, enjoy a bottle of wine, two side soups or salads, a delicious flatbread pizza, and a dessert to share.

Music Release Party for Kayli Denney's new music release of "Another Man's Job!" on Friday January 31st, from 7-10pm. Enjoy an evening of live music, wine tasting, and delicious food. Space is limited for this FREE event and tickets are required to attend, so reserve your space by clicking here.  

And they have two fun Valentine's events planned!



On Wednesday, February 12th, Live Happy Lane will host a Galentines Event from 6-9pm. This is a free event with themed cocktails, food and popcorn available. At 6:30, they will be showing the romantic comedy, "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days." They ask that you make reservations so they'll have a head count - do it at this link.


They are also offering a Valentine's Candlelight Dinner on Friday, February 14th, from 6-8pm. The cost is $70 per couple, and includes a bottle of wine, two brisket plates with sides, and a surprise dessert. Reservations are a must! Make them using this link. 

Parks & Recreation Monthly Senior Lunch

Thursday, February 13th at Fletcher Warren Civic Center, 5501 Business Hwy 69. There is a Free Senior Lunch on the second Thursday of every month from 12-1pm. The food is provided every month, but you are asked to register so they have a head count. You can do it at this link or by calling 903-457-2994.

Lions Lair Cafe - Let GHS Culinary Students cook for you!

The Culinary Arts Students at GHS will serve dinner at The Lions Lair Cafe on Friday, February 7th (Italian Fine Dining) and Thursday, February 13th (Down-home cooking). All Restaurant Nights are by reservation. Seating starts at 6pm and the last seating is at 8pm. To makes reservations, please include date, time, and number of guests and either email CulinaryArts@greenvilleisd.com or call 903 453-3734 and leave a message. Check their Facebook page for upcoming dates and menus.

Murder Mystery benefits Children’s Advocacy Center

On Thursday, February 13th, the Hunt County Children's Advocacy Center presents Billionaires’ Club Midnight Masquerade Murder Mystery Dinner at Adriana Estates, 373 FM 1903. With a mystery under each feathery façade, unmasking the killer may be quite a challenge. It’s up to you to determine which partygoer is guilty, bring this crime to justice, and save the party! Get ready for a glamorous evening of mystery, intrigue, and murder. Your ticket includes an open bar, meal catered by Billito's Italian Restaurant and a 2-hour professional, immersive murder mystery show. Dress to impress and don't forget your mask! Celebrate Valentine's Day with Greenville Theatre Works

Greenville Theatre Works, our local theater company, is presenting their first fundraiser on Friday, February 14th, at 7:30pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 8320 Jack Finney Blvd. Bring your partner, spouse or friend and enjoy a delicious meal while experiencing A. R. Gurney's "Love Letters" performed by Micah and Heather McBay. This heartfelt story is about two lives intertwined over decades of love and friendship. Tickets are $30 and includes dinner and the show - they are available at this link.

Order Valentine's Gifts Now So You’re Sure to Have Them on February 14th

Greenville Floral & Gifts is taking orders for luscious strawberries dipped in chocolate. This is a treat that is much-loved in our community! Advance orders are a must to secure them – and they recommend you call early. Of course, they will also have a wonderful selection of flowers for you to give your sweetie – but they suggest that you reserve the roses early too! Upcoming Events at the Texan Theater

The Texan shows free movies at noon on Thursdays and Fridays, and an opera performance from the Metropolitan Opera every Saturday at 11 am.


And the legendary Glenn Miller Orchestra will be performing at the Texan on Friday, February 14th – a great romantic Valentine’s evening!


Tickets are also on sale for the Sons of Cream (the sons of legendary band Cream members Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce) on Saturday, March 8th.

Chocolate Indulgence benefits Women in Need

Tickets are now on sale for Women In Need’s premier fundraising event, Chocolate Indulgence, which will be held on Friday, February 14th, from 6-9 pm, at Hidden Creek, 215 Chris Cuny Pkwy in Heath. Of course, anything with this much chocolate is fantastic, but this is a really wonderful event benefitting Women In Need, which provides shelter to victims of family violence. $125 Single Ticket or $250 Couple's Ticket. The Voice of Hunt County benefits Hunt County Shared Ministries

Hunt County Leadership 2025 presents THE VOICE of Hunt County on Saturday, February 15th at 7pm at the Greenville Municipal Auditorium. This is a one-night singing competition where talented contestants will face multiple elimination rounds, and YOU, the audience, will choose the winner! This event is a fundraiser for Hunt County Shared Ministries, supporting their mission to fight food insecurities in our community. You have two ways to support this event...

  1. Register now to be a contestant - the grand prize is $1000 to the winner plus 2 hours of studio time at Grammy-winning guitarist Brad Davis' studio. Complete the form and upload a video of you singing. (Videos may be featured in promotional content and marketing materials.)
  2. Purchase a ticket and attend. Tickets are $25 each and available at this link or at the door.

Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum February Events

February Lunch Break Special will be held on Tuesday, February 4th at noon at the museum. The program will feature a video compilation from some of the African American oral histories the museum has recently done - all have a sports theme. Some of the people interviewed include Byron Bell, Sandra Linson-Bell, Ricky Simmons, John Mason, Jr., and Cecilia Thomas Barr. Admission is free for museum members; otherwise, there will be general admission of $6 adults, $4 seniors/veterans/college students and $2 6-18 yrs. old.

Gun Show benefits Museum - On Saturday and Sunday, February 15th and 16th, the Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum hosts their popular Gun Show. Show hours are Saturday 9-5 and Sunday 10-4, and the location is the Fletcher Warren Civic Center, 5501 US Hwy 69 South. Vendors will be exhibiting everything from guns, knives, and swords, including those that might have been used during the Civil War, WWI, WWII, etc. Some of the booths will also include books, gun parts, reloading supplies, ammo and prints relating to military history. Check it out and have some fun buying, selling, trading or just browsing among the many items the vendors will display in their booths. A weekend pass is $10 per adult, $5 for ages 12-17, and under 12 is free.

Golden Oldies Movie Night at the Museum - The Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum presents their Golden Oldies Movie Night on Saturday, February 22nd at 5pm. This month's feature is the 1955 comedy, “Frances in the Navy” starring Donald O’Connor and Martha Hyer. Admission is free (but donations are always appreciated) and popcorn and soft drinks will be served.

Tickets will go on sale on February 18th for the Museum's popular Easter After Dark event, which is being held on Friday, April 11th at 7:30 pm. It always sells out, so you want to get your tickets early ($10 in advance and $12 the day of the event (if there are any left). What is Easter After Dark? It's a grownups-only Easter egg hunt where otherwise sensible adults roam around the museum grounds with a flashlight and an Easter basket trying to find the eggs. Tickets inside are redeemed for prizes back inside the museum (and there are some very nice items) where refreshments are also served. Call 903-450-4502 to get your tickets. This event is a blast! 

Vintage & Lace offers Craft Classes

Each month Vintage & Lace Marketplace offers a series of classes. February ones are listed below. You can see complete details, as well as the rest of the Spring class lineup and register at this link. All supplies are included in the price unless otherwise noted and class participants learn different crafting and painting techniques. Most classes take place on Wednesdays, or one Saturday a month. All are from 11am-1:30pm

Rotary Chili Fest & Silent Auction

The Greenville Rotary Club will host their annual Chili Fest on Thursday, February 27th from 11 am - 7 pm. It will be held at the Landmark on Lee Street - 2920 Lee Street and is one of the club's primary annual fundraisers. Tickets are $10 and include delicious chili, drink and dessert. Takeout is also available, but you'll miss the really great selection of silent auction items...and I promise you, you'll find something you'll want to bid on! Complete information here.

Luke Clayton's Ron-de-Voux 2025

Outdoor Writer and Radio Show Host Luke Clayton will host his 5th Annual Ron-de-Voux on Saturday, March 1st, beginning at 9 am at Top Rail Cowboy Church, 262 Horseman's Road. Several of Luke's sponsors and a variety of other vendors will be on hand to promote their cooking, hunting and fishing gear, as well as crafts, jewelry, leather, clothing and more. There will also be food vendors and live music. Come out for a great time, exchanging hunting and fishing stories and campfire fun with Luke Clayton! Boys & Girls Club of Northeast Texas Gala is March 7th

Tickets are now on sale for the Boys & Girls Club of Northeast Texas inaugural Youth of the Year Gala on Friday, March 7th, at 6pm at the Hilton Dallas/Rockwall Lakefront, a new one-of-a-kind event uniting the communities of Hunt and Rockwall Counties. This special night will showcase the inspiring voices of the remarkable Boys & Girls Club youth, weaving a powerful narrative of empowerment, resilience, and hope. Guests will hear from the 2025 Youth of the Year, Aniah O'Neal — an inspiring young leader who embodies the incredible impact of the Club. Also included is a gourmet dinner, captivating live entertainment, and the excitement of live and silent auctions, topped with a chance to win big in a thrilling raffle. Individual tickets are $150, couples are $275 and a separate ticket to the after-party (not included with the dinner) is $50. Occasionally I include a section that features a quick listing of some area events that might be of interest and are all no more than an hour's drive from Greenville. I got lots of positive comments so here are some fun short getaways. 


The North Texas Valentine Wine Trail happens during the month of February and the first weekend of March. And all three of our area wineries are participating: Cedar Hollow Winery, Landon Winery and Live Happy Lane Winery. But wait! There lots more! News and Notes from the City of Greenville

Did you know the City of Greenville has a weekly online newsletter called the N.O.W. Report (News of the Week)? It's available at this link. In it, you'll find everything from what's going on at the library, parks and the GMA, to reports on street repairs and how many gallons of water were processed. It's a very interesting snapshot of your city government. New editions are posted weekly on Friday.

W. WALWORTH HARRISON PUBLIC LIBRARY

The W. Walworth Harrison Public Library has a series of regular weekly and monthly activities designed to encourage enthusiasts or help beginners. Keep up through their Facebook page and check the list below.


The Digital Arts Literacy Lab at the Library is an exciting grant-funded area that can empower members of the community. The lab offers opportunities for 3D printing, Makerspace equipment and crafting projects (Cricut Maker, Hat Press, Mug Press and Express Mini). The Lab also has equipment to accommodate video conferencing, webcasts, technology and podcasting. The opportunities are wide open to the community! Stop by the Library and check it out.



The Northeast Texas History & Genealogy Center, located in the W. Walworth Harrison Public Library is open Mondays from 10 am – 2 pm and 4 pm – 8 pm, Tuesdays from 2 pm – 6 pm, Thursdays 4 pm – 8 pm and Fridays from 10 am – 2 pm. In addition, the center will be open the first Saturday of every month from 10 am – 1 pm. This is a treasure trove of documents, records and other materials pertaining to Greenville, Hunt County and Northeast Texas families and history.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION
City of Greenville and Hunt County residents have a permanent collection center for disposing of hazardous household waste products. The Greenville Hunt County Regional Household Hazardous Waste Center is open the 1st & 3rd Tuesday of each month from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and the 4th Saturday of each month from 8:00 am to 12 Noon. The Greenville-Hunt County Regional Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility is available to residents of participating cities and residents in the unincorporated areas of Hunt County free of charge. Click here for a list of the items accepted.
SAFE DRUG DISPOSAL
Did you know the Greenville Police Department has a Permanent Drug Take-Back receptacle? It's available 24/7 in the lobby of the Police Department at 3000 Lee St. Individuals may drop off unused or unwanted medications for safe disposal at no cost. FREE MULCH FROM THE CITY
Did you know that you can pick up FREE mulch courtesy of GEUS? The piles of shredded trimmings from clearing the power lines are located at the water treatment plant’s grounds at 501 Wesley Street, off Sockwell Blvd. You can pick up as much as you need, but you’ll need to bring your own bags or pickup for hauling, as well as a shovel and gloves to move it. There is no one available to assist you so bring your own helpers, too. But it’s FREE!

CITY OF GREENVILLE PHONE APP: The City of Greenville now has an app for your phone. It's a good way to keep up with what's going on in the city, from the latest news and alerts, to the various departments and more. It also has tabs for Parks & Recreation, the Library, Farmers Market, GMA Tourism, and Calendar of Events. You can get it at either link below. TUBBY ADKISSON MOBILE MAMMOGRAPHY COACH: The Tubby Adkisson Mobile Mammography Coach is fully equipped with 3D digital mammography equipment to conduct mammograms at remote locations throughout Hunt County without a referral by a doctor. The coach also offers Bone Density Screening with a Physcian referral. Most insurance plans are accepted and a $200 flat fee is available for those who choose to pay cash. Appointments for these remote mammograms are scheduled in advance so that insurance and eligibility can be verified. Financial resources may be available by calling 903-408-5010.
