You make a difference...

At the 2019 Salute to the Stars we honored three amazing people who are making a difference in the community through programs at LCCC.

Mary Lou Morris is a dedicated and active volunteer at Be Our Guest Adult Day. Her late husband, Jack, had been a Guest. After he passed, she found herself looking for something to help keep busy. Mary Lou feels like she gets as much out of working with the Guests as they do from her being there. Thanks to her excellent baking skills, the Guests and staff get spoiled regularly with her delicious treats

In order to be the best foster parents they could be, Margo and Glenn Gray left corporate jobs and started their own businesses, allowing for more family time and flexibility. They feel each of their children have been a blessing in this journey and they are so fortunate to have such a great support system. The Grays also volunteer any opportunity they are able to. They genuinely try to make themselves available to anybody in need of a support system, a meal, an ear, anything at all that they can help with.

Thank you & God Bless
What's in Your Vape - a Toolkit for Parents, Grandparents and Caregivers

Livingston County Community Alliance (LCCA) is talking with parents and the community about youth vaping. Youth begin experimenting with vaping, tobacco, alcohol and marijuana at young ages. It is important to start the conversation early and continue through the teen years. Communicate your values and messages clearly. Share your concern for their health and safety.

It is crucial to make sure teens knows your expectation, substance abuse is not a right of passage, and not all kids experiment with drugs and alcohol. Teens who use substances have more problems with school, the law, their health and forming healthy relationships. Let them know there are consequences to substance use - both in terms of their health and for breaking your expectations.

To learn more about how to have a conversation with youth and to download your toolkit, click here . Share the information with family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and youth!
