A Great Month for LCCA Events
Youth-Led Summit
The 3rd Annual Youth-Led Summit was held on August 5th at Shalom Lutheran Church in Pinckney with about 20 youth from Livingston County middle and high schools. Anthony Grupido, a motivational speaker and magician, started off the summit by talking to the kids about mental wellness and resiliency while performing magic. Youth participated in the magic tricks and got them to think about how to manage their mental health.

After lunch, youth went into breakout sessions to learn how to use art to manage mental health as well as yoga, mindfulness, and deep breathing. They created some amazing art! The youth shared that they loved seeing the magic and hearing Anthony Grupido's stories. We are looking forward to the next Youth-Led Summit!
LCCA Golf Outing
The Livingston County Community Alliance (LCCA) annual golf outing is the only fundraiser for the coalition. This was the fifth golf outing and was in honor of their beloved coworker and prevention advocate Megan Palmer. It was held on August 6, a beautiful, hot day at Chemung Hills Golf Club. Twenty teams teed off at 9:00 am and completed their outing about 2:00 pm.

Sheriff Mike Murphy emceed the event and shared some stories about Megan Palmer. Mona Shand, Livingston County representative for Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin, shared a special tribute from Congresswoman Slotkin. This tribute means her life and her story are being officially recognized on the floor of the US House of Representatives and will be in the records. Mona presented the tribute to Livingston County Community Alliance and the tribute will be sent to Megan’s family.

All proceeds of the golf outing benefit local youth drug prevention programs and support the LCCA in its mission to unite the local community to reduce and prevent youth substance use and to live a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

The Livingston County Community Alliance (LCCA) is a county-wide, grassroots, anti-drug coalition which aims to unite the Livingston County community to reduce and prevent youth substance use and to life a healthy and drug free lifestyle. Learn more at: https://drugfreelivingston.com/

A “Safe Home” is a home in which the family or an adult has committed to providing a safe and substance-free environment for their children, and any other youth who spend time there. Kids and adults can be confident that minors under the age of 21 will not be offered or allowed to use drugs or alcohol while they are in these families’ homes. Livingston County Safe Homes was inspired by SRSLY Safe Homes in Washtenaw County. It was created in response to a growing concern among residents about the prevalence and perceived acceptance of teen drinking parties hosted by parents.
