Letter from Larry Dierker
From my start in Little League, pitching to managing, broadcasting to writing, my journey with baseball spans nearly half a century. Yet, the real joy lies not in my accolades but in the smiles and triumphs of young players in Dierker's Champs. As a former Houston Astros manager, I've seen the transformative power of this sport firsthand.
But our league, born out of a desire to provide opportunities for all students, faces its toughest inning yet. COVID struck hard, leaving us scrambling for fields amidst a landscape of limited resources. Our school district has grown and the fields where we played are now administration buildings. Yet, despite the odds, our kids and their families rallied, proving their resilience and dedication.
Now, as we look to the future, we envision more than just a game. We see a chance to level the playing field for Title I schools, where access to equipment and facilities is a distant dream. Our mission is clear: to build not just fields, but futures.
We've secured the land and laid the groundwork, but our journey is far from over. We need your support to turn this dream into reality. Our season starts with a skills camp at Cy-Fair High School on February 17th and games on February 24th. Come out this spring, witness the passion and potential of our players, and become part of something truly special. Together, we can ensure that every child has the opportunity to step up to the plate and swing for the stars.
