Contentment

๐Ÿ“บ๏ธ Psalm 131 ๐Ÿ”Š

1Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

2Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.

3Let Israel hope in the LORD from henceforth and for ever.

Psalms 131 Commentary

(131:1-2) Pride - Pride results from overvaluing ourselves and undervaluing others. It leads to restlessness because it makes us dissatisfied with what we have and concerned about what everyone else is doing. It keeps us always hungering for more attention and acclaim. By contrast, humility gets us to put others first and allows us to be content with God's leading in our lives. Such contentment gives us security so that we no longer have to prove ourselves to others. Let your perspectives come from humility and trust, which give you the ability and freedom to serve God and others.

Each day we walk through the Bible chapter by chapter making an application of our text to help us grow in the Lord. Many applications can be made from each day's text. Today, we continue in the Book of Psalms with Chapter 131. In our text today, we see the theme of Trust and Contentment. In applying, we see that our quiet trust in God is the basis for our contentment. Today, we live in a busy world that is loud, proud, insecure, and restless. Some spend all their resources trying to gain this contentment, but it comes from our dependence on the Lord. How about you? Are you content? Let us learn from our Psalm and text today to remember that our contentment comes from our simple trust and dependence on the Lord.

Closing Prayer

Father in the Name and through the Blood of Jesus we pray that we would Take Today's Reading of Your Word and Give Us Understanding of Its Text, that You Apply this Word to Our Lives, and that you would help us grow in You. Father, Finally we Pray for Your Kingdom to come, that Your Will to be Done here on Earth as it is in Heaven. That You would Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen
