His Bride

 ¹My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.

 ²Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.

 ³Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O most mighty, with thy glory and thy majesty.

 ⁴And in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things.

 ⁵Thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the king's enemies; whereby the people fall under thee.

 ⁶Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre.

 ⁷Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

 ⁸All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad.

 ⁹Kings' daughters were among thy honourable women: upon thy right hand did stand the queen in gold of Ophir.

 ¹⁰Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father's house;

 ¹¹So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: for he is thy Lord; and worship thou him.

 ¹²And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall intreat thy favour.

 ¹³The king's daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold.

 ¹⁴She shall be brought unto the king in raiment of needlework: the virgins her companions that follow her shall be brought unto thee.

 ¹⁵With gladness and rejoicing shall they be brought: they shall enter into the king's palace.

 ¹⁶Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, whom thou mayest make princes in all the earth.

 ¹⁷I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations: therefore shall the people praise thee for ever and ever.

Psalms 45 Commentary

(45:1) A Messianic Psalm - This is called a messianic psalm because it prophetically describes the Messiah's future relationship with the church, his body of believers. Psalm 45.12 expresses God's abundant blessing on his Messiah; the words of Psalm find their ultimate fulfillment in Christ (Hebrews 1:8-0). The church is described as the bride of Christ in Revelation 19:7-8; 21:9; and 22417. 

(45:8-9) Myrrh - Myrrh is a fragrant gum of an Arabian tree, generally used in perfumes. Aloes, a spice, may have come from sandalwood, a close-grained and fragrant wood often used for storage boxes or chests (see also Proverbs 7:14- 7; Song of Solomon 43-14). Cassia was probably made from flowers of the cinnamon tree. These expensive fragrances were appropriate for a king's wedding. The location of Ophir is unknown, but it is believed to be in either Arabia or Africa. Wherever the location, it was famous as a source of gold. 

(45:13-17) The King's bride - This beautiful section of poetry describes the king's bride. It also provides a rich metaphor to help us picture Christ's bride, the church, as she unites forever with him (see Revelation 19:6-8; 21:2).

Each day, we walk through the Bible chapter by chapter, making an application of our text to help us grow in the Lord. Many applications can be made from each day's text. Today, we continue in the Book of Psalms with Chapter 45. In our text today, we see the theme of a poem written to a king on the occasion of his wedding. Many see this Psalm as a prophecy about Christ and His Bride, the Church, who will soon be reunited for eternity. In making an application, we see that those who are saved are part of His Bride, the Church. As the bride, we should be preparing ourselves for the wedding feast. Adorning ourselves and being ready when Jesus comes to receive us. This should motivate us to be busy about the King's business, busy reaching others with the Gospel so that others can become part of His Church. How about you? Are you busy about the King's business?
