Call Out to the Lord

๐Ÿ“บ๏ธ Psalm 54 ๐Ÿ”Š

1Save me, O God, by thy name, and judge me by thy strength.

2Hear my prayer, O God; give ear to the words of my mouth.

3For strangers are risen up against me, and oppressors seek after my soul: they have not set God before them. Selah.

4Behold, God is mine helper: the Lord is with them that uphold my soul.

5He shall reward evil unto mine enemies: cut them off in thy truth.

6I will freely sacrifice unto thee: I will praise thy name, O LORD; for it is good.

7For he hath delivered me out of all trouble: and mine eye hath seen his desire upon mine enemies.

Psalms 54 Commentary

(54:3-4) Prayer to Praise - Many of David's psalms follow the pattern found in these two verses--a transition from prayer to praise. David was not afraid to come to God and express his true feelings and needs. Thus, his spirit was lifted, and he praised God--his helper, protector, and friend.

(54:5) Repaying Evil - David asked God to repay evil to his enemies. He simply stated his confidence in God's promise. Proverbs 26:27. warns that those who cause trouble will reap trouble. What we have intended for others may blow up in our own faces. To be honest and straightforward before God and others is simpler, easier, and safer in the long run.

Each day, we walk through the Bible chapter by chapter, making an application of our text to help us grow in the Lord. Many applications can be made from each day's text. Today, we continue in the Book of Psalms with Chapter 54. In our text today, we see a theme of a call for God to overcome our enemies. In making an application, we see that God is our helper, even in times of hurt and betrayal. He is the one we can call upon in our time of need. Today, in this world of sin and apathy, it seems dog-eat dog, as few have morals or values. This apathy spreads the hurt and betrayal to many, making this text applicable today. How about you? Have others hurt you? Let us remember our Psalm and text today to be encouraged and remember that our Lord helps when others hurt or let us down.
