In the Path of Destruction

๐Ÿ“บ๏ธ Zechariah 2 ๐Ÿ”Š

1I lifted up mine eyes again, and looked, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand.

2Then said I, Whither goest thou? And he said unto me, To measure Jerusalem, to see what is the breadth thereof, and what is the length thereof.

3And, behold, the angel that talked with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him,

4And said unto him, Run, speak to this young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle therein:

5For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.

6Ho, ho, come forth, and flee from the land of the north, saith the LORD: for I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heaven, saith the LORD.

7Deliver thyself, O Zion, that dwellest with the daughter of Babylon.

8For thus saith the LORD of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.

9For, behold, I will shake mine hand upon them, and they shall be a spoil to their servants: and ye shall know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me.

10Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the LORD.

11And many nations shall be joined to the LORD in that day, and shall be my people: and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto thee.

12And the LORD shall inherit Judah his portion in the holy land, and shall choose Jerusalem again.

13Be silent, O all flesh, before the LORD: for he is raised up out of his holy habitation.

Zechariah 2 Commentary

(2:1) Many of the Captive Israelites did not return to Jerusalem because they preferred to stay with the wealth they had accumulated in Babylon. But Zechariah instructed them to leave Babylon quickly. This was an urgent request because Babylon would be destroyed and because its sinful culture would cause his people to forget their spiritual priorities. About 90 % of the Israelites rejected these warnings and remained in Babylon.

(2:8) Believers (Psalm 103) are precious to God (Psalm 116) they are his very own children. Treating any unbeliever unkindly is the same as treating God that way. As Jesus told his disciples, when we help others we are helping the Lord. when we neglect them we are neglecting him (Matthew 25) Be careful, therefore, how you treat fellow believers - that is the way you are treating God.

(2:9-12) "Me" refers to the Messiah who will judge all who have oppressed God's People. God promises to live among hsil people, and he says that many nations will come to know him (John 1)(Revelation 21)

(2:11,12) God did not forget his word to Abraham "The entire world will be blessed because of you" (Genesis 12) Abraham , the father of the nation of Israel, promised that his descendants would bless the whole world. Since the common of Jesus the Messiah. This promise is being fulfilled.

Each day, we walk through the Bible chapter by chapter, applying our text to help us grow in the Lord. Many applications can be made from each day's text. Today, we continue in the book of Zechariah with Chapter 2. In our text today, Zachariah sees a vision of a man with a yardstick, and in our text, 90% of the Israelites refused to leave the wealth of Babalyon and, as a result, were caught in their destruction. When making an application, it is easy to get caught up in the world, but if we do, we could find ourselves on the path of their destruction. How about you? Do you follow the Lord or the World? Let us learn from our text today and the warning of Zachariah to see that if we follow the world, we could end up in their path of judgment and destruction.
