The Church

๐Ÿ“บ๏ธ Psalm 87 ๐Ÿ”Š

1His foundation is in the holy mountains.

2The LORD loveth the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob.

3Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God. Selah.

4I will make mention of Rahab and Babylon to them that know me: behold Philistia, and Tyre, with Ethiopia; this man was born there.

5And of Zion it shall be said, This and that man was born in her: and the highest himself shall establish her.

6The LORD shall count, when he writeth up the people, that this man was born there. Selah.

7As well the singers as the players on instruments shall be there: all my springs are in thee.

Psalms 87 Commentary

(87:1-7). The Holy City of God - Zion (the holy mountain, Jerusalem) and its citizens here represent the future community of all believers. This psalm looks ahead to the holy city of God described in Revelation 21:10-27. The honor of living there will be granted to all whose names are recorded in the Lamb's book of life (Revelation 21:27). All who trust in Jesus are citizens of heaven now (Philippians 3:20). God's grace is what forms and sustains this wonderful, growing community. Should we not welcome God's offer to be part of this celebration?

Each day, we walk through the Bible chapter by chapter, making an application of our text to help us grow in the Lord. Many applications can be made from each day's text. Today, we continue in the Book of Psalms with Chapter 87. In our text today, we see a theme of Jerusalem, where all believers or "the Church" will one day gather. In applying, we see that all true believers make up the Church or the body of Christ. Although some claim to be the Church, the Bible clearly defines who will gather one day. Those who have been saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. How about You? Are you part of His Church? Let us learn through our Psalm and text today to remember that to spend eternity with God, we must be a part of the Church.

Closing Prayer

Father in the Name and through the Blood of Jesus we pray that we would Take Today's Reading of Your Word and Give Us Understanding of Its Text, that You Apply this Word to Our Lives, and that you would help us grow in You. Father, Finally we Pray for Your Kingdom to come, that Your Will to be Done here on Earth as it is in Heaven. That You would Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen
