A Heart of Worship

  ¹IT IS A GOOD THING TO GIVE THANKS UNTO THE LORD, AND TO SING PRAISES UNTO THY NAME, O MOST HIGH:

 ²To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night,

 ³Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound.

 ⁴For thou, LORD, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy hands.

 ⁵O LORD, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep.

 ⁶A brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this.

 ⁷When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed for ever:

 ⁸But thou, LORD, art most high for evermore.

 ⁹For, lo, thine enemies, O LORD, for, lo, thine enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.

 ¹⁰But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil.

 ¹¹Mine eye also shall see my desire on mine enemies, and mine ears shall hear my desire of the wicked that rise up against me.

 ¹²The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

 ¹³Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God.

 ¹⁴They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;

 ¹⁵To shew that the LORD is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

Psalms 92 Commentary

(92:1) Giving Thanks -Thanks should be on our lips every day. We can never say thank you enough to parents, friends, leaders, and especially to God. When thanksgiving becomes an integral part of your life, you will find that your attitude toward life changes. You will become more positive, gracious, loving, and humble. Your complaints will dissolve in gratitude. 

(92:12-14) Palm Trees - Palm trees are known for their long life span. To flourish like palm trees means to stand tall and to live long. The palms of the region where this psalm was written are also an excellent source of food, producing dates. The cedars of Lebanon grew to 120 feet in height and up to 30 feet in circumference; thus, they were solid, strong, and circumstance and aging. Those who place their faith firmly in God can have this strength and vitality. immovable. The writer saw believers as upright, strong, productive, and unmoved by the winds of circumstance and aging. 

(92:14) Our Energy Source- Honoring God is not restricted to young people who seem to have unlimited strength and energy. Even as they age, devoted believers can produce spiritual fruit. Many faithful older people continue to have a fresh outlook and can teach us from a lifetime of experience in serving God. Churches should always be looking for ways to tap into their experience and wisdom. Seek out an elderly friend or relative to tell you about his or her experiences with the Lord and challenge you to new heights of spiritual growth.

Each day we walk through the Bible chapter by chapter making an application of our text to help us grow in the Lord. Many applications can be made from each day's text. Today, we continue in the Book of Psalms with Chapter 92. In our text today, we see a theme of being thankful and faithful every day. This Psalm was used in temple services on the Sabbath as a form of worship. In making an application, we see the need to have a heart of worship that is full of thanks and faithfulness. Today, we face many challenges that will discourage our hearts. A heart of worship will give us the right perspective as we navigate this lost world. How about you? Do you have a heart of worship?
