Useless Vines

๐Ÿ“บ๏ธ Ezekiel 15 ๐Ÿ”Š

1And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

2Son of man, what is the vine tree more than any tree, or than a branch which is among the trees of the forest?

3Shall wood be taken thereof to do any work? or will men take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon?

4Behold, it is cast into the fire for fuel; the fire devoureth both the ends of it, and the midst of it is burned. Is it meet for any work?

5Behold, when it was whole, it was meet for no work: how much less shall it be meet yet for any work, when the fire hath devoured it, and it is burned?

6Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; As the vine tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

7And I will set my face against them; they shall go out from one fire, and another fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I set my face against them.

8And I will make the land desolate, because they have committed a trespass, saith the Lord GOD

Ezekiel 15 Commentary

(15:1-8) A Useless Vine - The messages given to Ezekiel in Ezekiel 15-17 provided further evidence that God was going to destroy Jerusalem. The first message compared God's people to an unproductive grapevine that wasn't even useful as firewood. The people of Jerusalem were useless to God because of their idol worship, so they would be destroyed and their cities burned. Isaiah also compared the nation of Israel to a vineyard (see Isaiah 5:1-7). This passage would have painted a vivid picture because grapevines in their prime are beautiful and productive. Have you also become useless and unfruitful to God? Each of us must take spiritual inventory of our fruitfulness and usefulness to God. How are you doing at fulfilling his plan and purpose for you?

Each day we walk through the Bible chapter by chapter making an application of our text to help us grow in the Lord. Many applications can be made from each day's text. Today we continue the Book of Ezekiel with Chapter 15. In our text today we see Jerusalem is stated as a useless vine because of its sin it produces no fruit and is only good for the fire. In making application we see that when we are saved we are engrafted in the vine of Jesus-Christ and if we allow Him to live in us He will produce fruit through the vine. If we fill our lives with sin though we will make ourselves as vines useless and like Jerusalem here good for nothing. How about you? Are you a useful vine? Let us learn from our text today to see that as children of God our decisions to sin or obey God will affect the fruit in our lives making us Good Vines or Vines that are Useless.
