Spotlight Story: Partnership Develops Videos to Help Share Indigenous Culture
When Prairie Central District partnered with Common Weal Community Arts and the Buffalo Peoples Art Institute in 2018, and OUTSaskatoon in 2019, on collaborative projects, they originally saw these as an opportunity to introduce themselves to First Nations communities and the people of Treaty 4. As a result, these partnerships continued to open doors to more partnerships and increased community engagement.

This year, Prairie Central District joined forces with South East District, South West District, and Parkland Valley District, and with First Nations communities on Treaty 4 to create videos designed to educate viewers on First Nations culture, and to share the message that "we are all neighbors and Treaty people."

2021 Saskatchewan Blue Cross Go Out & Play Challenge
The Saskatchewan Blue Cross Go Out & Play Challenge is celebrating its 10th year by adding even more opportunities for play in Saskatchewan hometowns this year. In addition to its normal $10,000 grand prize and $5,000 runner up prize, the challenge will give away 10 $500 playground stencil packages.

Communities can now register for the challenge, which focuses on the importance of outdoor play. Participating communities rally residents to log physical activity minutes during the 10-day challenge. The community that moves the most wins the grand prize for a project that gets kids and families out to play. The stencil packages will go to communities that finish in 3rd to 12th place.

Communities can register for the challenge until February 15, 2021. Those who register by the December 18 early bird deadline earn bonus minutes to add to their total in addition to some special 10th anniversary perks. Online registration and challenge rules are available at
Give the Gift of Creativity!
As we move into the season of giving, it is important to remember the kids who will truly benefit from the gift of creativity– including the opportunity to participate in meaningful arts and cultural activities. Over 72,000 children in Saskatchewan live below the poverty line and face many daily challenges. Support to Creative Kids gives these kids the chance to be creative, to belong, to get involved and to learn new skills that contribute to increased self-confidence and self-esteem.

This year, the Creative Kids’ 12 Days of Giving Holiday Campaign will highlight the opportunity to give and change a child’s life by giving the gift of creativity.
Take the Lead!® Games and Activities - Options for Physical Distancing
Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association created a new free resource for the Take the Lead!® Program, in partnership with the staff and partners of Lakeland District for Sport, Culture and Recreation, called Take the Lead!® Games and Activities – Options for Physical Distancing.

This free resource can support active play in all environments where physical distancing or having low/no touch activities is preferred.
How Artists are Dealing with Coronavirus Cancellations
With the Coronavirus outbreak changing the way everyone in the world is working and living their daily lives, artists are learning to adapt to a “new normal” as art fairs, exhibitions and workshops are indefinitely put on hold.

COVID-19 has already rapidly changed the way that everyone—including artists and creative freelancers—will conduct business this year.

In an effort to understand how art careers are changing due to the Coronavirus, we asked artists how the outbreak has affected their careers and how they are planning to alter the way they approach their art businesses.
