Focusing On Christ Until Spiritual Excellence is Demonstrated

 Proverbs 4:25-27       Hebrews 12:1-2

This week's prayer is offered by

Mrs. Nicole English

Governing Board of Directors

Now I am departing from the world; they are staying in this world, but I am coming to you. Holy Father, you have given me your name; now protect them by the power of your name so that they will be united just as we are. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me. “I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me (John 17:11; 21-23 NLT).

So then, let us aim for harmony in the church and try to build each other up (Romans 14:19 NLT).

In John, chapter 17, we see Jesus praying for us--praying that we would be united in Him, bound together by our faith in Him, and obedient to God, the Father. In Romans chapter 14, the Apostle Paul reminds us to be unified.

Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for the work that You did on the cross--reconciling us to the Father and bringing us into right relationship with Him. Thank You for bringing us together as one church. Jesus, though the work of the cross is finished, there is growing division among believers. Jesus, please unite Your church! By Your Spirit, convict our hearts; call us to repentance and remove strife, pettiness, resentment, confusion, and hate from every person that calls upon Your name. Cleanse our hearts and hands with Your precious blood. Help us, Jesus, to see each other the way You see us! Help us to love each other the way You love us, Jesus! We ask for perfect unity, not for our own glory, but so that others will see You in us and be saved! Help us to walk in love and serve each other! Jesus, thank You for Your prayers for us! Thank You for interceding for us and calling us to be united in You! In Jesus’s name, amen!

Let's pray and believe God together.

What Does the Bible Say About it?

Why the Bible? It is God speaking His word to us. He has a lot to say. The Guinness Book of World Records (2021) says that the Bible is the bestselling book in the world with an estimated five to seven billion copies sold. In the Book of Genesis, God said let us (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) make man (and woman) in our image and in our likeness (Gen. 1:26). We are not God. We were not hidden from God as we were being created in our mother's womb (Psalm 139:12-16), so He knew us before we were born. As our Creator, He provided us an instruction manual called the Bible to show us how to live. God's love permeates the Bible but make no mistake, as Hebrew 4:12 says, His word is quick, it's powerful, and it's sharper than a two-edged sword. It cuts deep not to expose and embarrass us, but to give us a future (Jer. 29:11). It cuts down to our truest intentions and the deepest motives of our heart, but not to cut us off, but so we might be saved (John 3:17). I often say that it is so important to study the Bible for yourself. It is so good! When you read about God's love for us in spite of us, Jesus's sacrifice for us in spite of us, and His redemption plan for us in spite of us, it is humbling and it shows how deep God's love goes for us. When I say to you that Jesus loves you, it is oh so true because He truly, truly does. He has provided His word to us so that we can experience life in abundance here on earth and with Him in eternity.

Keep FOCUSED on Him,

Dr. Baker

Remember your Creator IN THE DAYS OF YOUR YOUTH...

Don’t let the excitement of youth cause you to forget your Creator. Honor him in your youth before you grow old and say, “Life is not pleasant anymore” (Ecclesiastes 12:1 NLT).
