Nevada Builders Blueprint July 2024

From the CEO

Happy July, Nevada Builders Members!

THANK YOU! To everyone who participated in the Foundation's Inaugural Golf Tournament. I had a wonderful time meeting with new members and partners, and catching up with longtime associates on the course throughout the day. Below read more about the success of this worthwhile event, complete with a photo gallery, courtesy of TR Link.

Summer is a busy time in the building industry and our office is busy, too. We are eagerly setting up partnerships with schools across the state in efforts to attract individuals into the trades. That said, please do not hesitate to reach out to Stacey or myself should you have questions on how you can support these endeavors or about membership.

Cheers,

Glen

Preventing Heat Illness

Summers in Nevada can be brutal with temperatures exceeding 100 degrees. Often these temperatures can last weeks or months at a time.

Construction workers put themselves in harm’s way every day working in the heat.  Workers exposed to hot environments or extreme heat can be at risk of heat-related illnesses and injuries. Worker’s safety attire typically includes wearing a vest, long sleeves, gloves, hard hat, and boots. Workers can get very hot with all the construction attire required. There are additional accessories that can help keep workers cool while working in the heat as well.

Heat Illness is a serious medical condition resulting from the body's inability to cope with a particular heat load, and includes heat cramps, heat exhaustion, heat syncope (dizziness), and heat stroke. Ways to cope with heat illnesses include wearing light colored clothing, and drinking water many times during your shift. Wearing shaded safety glasses. Taking breaks in shaded areas and start working earlier in the day if possible. Ensure there is a good supply of drinking water available. Hydration is most important. Drink water every 15-20 minutes, even if you're not thirsty.

Try to pace yourself, as not to get tired easily. Know the signs of heat illnesses and work with a partner if possible. Don’t drink energy drinks and coffee while working in the field. Stay out of the sun as much as possible.

For more information on the importance of Heat Illness Prevention, or any other safety questions, or concerns, please contact PGM Safety Services, an affiliate company of Pro Group Management. We will be happy to assist when you visit us at www.pgmnv.com or call (800) 859-3177.
