Nevada Builders Blueprint June 2024

From the CEO

Members -

We're swinging into Summer this month with the Foundation's inaugural golf tournament later this month. The team has put an incredible amount of effort into this event and I'm proud to say spots are almost sold out. If you were thinking about signing up, I encourage you to do so now we can all enjoy a day of friendly competition at Toiyabe.

Also happening in June are primary elections. We believe all members' voices should be heard and would like to remind everyone to cast their vote on or before Tuesday, June 11. If you have any questions about candidates or races, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Cheers,

Glen

Preventing Hazard Complacency

Working in the construction industry comes with inherent dangers to workers that must be recognized by employers as being something more than, “just a part of the job”. Our experienced workers and supervisors have been exposed to construction hazards for so long and so often that they can become complacent to the dangers of the job. This hazard identification complacency is a significant problem within this and all industries. When people see the same things day in and day out it is a natural tendency for this complacency to become prevalent. It is important that employers recognize this tendency as a hazard in and of itself and should take steps to prevent it.

Hazard awareness is the key to reducing hazard complacency. Increasing awareness shouldn’t be something that occurs only after someone has been seriously injured or fatally wounded. Increasing worker awareness must take place on a continuous basis with purpose and not just as an administrative exercise.

Humans tend to remember information through repetition. Lifesaving and injury prevention information must be provided not only on a frequent or recurring basis but must be presented in different ways to keep workers focused. Getting workers involved in the risk management effort at the jobsite can be a key to success.

For more information on Preventing Hazard Complacency, or if you have any other safety questions or concerns, please contact PGM Safety Services, an affiliate company of Pro Group Management. We will be happy to assist when you visit us at www.pgmnv.com or call (800) 859-3177.
