It's summertime, time to hit the Revol-Oceanary Road again, this time with my dog Hailey. It turns out that I've been on a work-related summer road trip for over 20 years. In all these years, there hasn't been a shortage of destinations that have served as my own personal vision quest, allowing me to really think about why I do what I do, and the people and ecosystems that are in the middle of it all.

Hailey gets ready to hit the road!
Unlike last year's cross-country train trip, this year's trip will be regional and it will start at the first ever  Vermont JerkFest  in Killington. That's right... a Jamaican style festival right in the middle of Vermont! And if that isn't revol-oceanary enough for you, we'll celebrate food from the ocean with a Seafood Throwdown!

The rest of the trip will take Hailey and me to Maine where lots of revol-oceanary work around fisheries and marine conservation has been going on for decades. And it continues today.

I'm certain this trip will deliver when it comes to lessons and inspirations. Stay tuned to our blog for stories of inspiration from along the Revol-Oceanary Road 2015.

Onward,
Niaz

Influencing policy
Don't let policymakers keep us in the DARK!

Last week, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 1599, the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act of 2015. Its opponents have named it the Deny Americans the Right to Know Act  (aka the DARK act) - because if it becomes law, it will negate existing GMO labeling laws, among other things. If you value transparency in the food system and the ability to make food choices based on available information, make sure your senator hears from you. Want a better sense of who is behind this bill?

All the ways to Know your Fisherman

Fishermen host educational sessions on the pier in Chatham, MA. A new restaurant in New York keeps their menu open to whatever Dock to Dish brings them. Get more people reading labels. Better yet, get them to join a CSF

What we're reading

A big year for Bristol Bay sockeye. But salmon news is not so good in Washington and Idaho. It might be certified sustainable, but the pollock in McDonald's filet o' fish sandwiches is anything but.  Forced labor at sea.

Thank you for all that you do. Catch you next month!
