Letter from the Director - Kenny Lane

Greetings from Tipton County. My name is Kenny Lane, and I am the Interim Director of Tipton County.

I have been employed with Lighthouse/Safe Harbor for nearly 20 years. I have the honor of serving this wonderful organization as Director of Operations. When I was asked to be the Interim Director of Tipton County for a season I didn’t hesitate, and I love every minute of it.

My official role in this organization is to oversee the day-to-day Operations of Safe Harbor. I am task with many things that are more in an administrative role. When I was asked to do this newsletter, I was like really? I have time for that? After thinking about it, it got me to thinking about how much I love this Interim Position. God always puts us in the right place at exactly the right time.

At first, I went in thinking about all the experience I have, the knowledge, the know-how, the drive, and determination to make this location the best! After the first week I was really enjoying things. Helping these men overcome obstacles, pouring into a staff that has more heart than you can imagine, and just putting things in place. By the second week I was starting to really get involved in everyone’s lives. I would check on the guys every day, see how they were doing, think about different ways I could help them. I really enjoy that part. It was cool to arrange it for some guys to go to a Memphis Grizzlies game, cook breakfast for them on Christmas morning, hold a graduation ceremony for the graduates and lots of other cool stuff.

As time moved on, I felt a bond growing with our clients. I found myself wanting more for them. I don’t want them to fail. I started brainstorming with the staff. I would share my past experiences with them, failures, and successes. I can see the heart of this staff as it beats as one heartbeat. I will go to battle with this team anytime, anywhere! They are unified! They care! They are battle tested and ready for war and that’s when I realized God didn’t send me into this battle to fix a city, He sent me into a city to fix me! Sometimes we get overwhelmed and get tunnel vision. We forget why we do what we do! Our vision gets out of focus! We get complacent! We climb the ladder so to speak and forget the foundation the ladder rest on! What made us! What gave us the strength for this Battle!

As a man that struggled forever, a man that was once lost, depressed, pushed people away that cared about me, a man that struggled with the loss of a mom at age 12 then losing my dad, losing relationships with my kids, I can honestly say that this organization saved my life. Going back into the trenches doesn’t depress me anymore, it strengthens me! It refills my hope! It Gives me Purpose! Our Mission Statement is Know God, Find Freedom, Discover Purpose, Make a Difference! In 2001 I had realized I didn’t Know God anymore, I had No Freedom, I had no Purpose, I made no Difference! Today, I am happily married for 17 years, great relationship with my 4 kids, 7 grandkids, I have Freedom from depression, anger and resentment, my purpose is to help anyone who needs my help, and I am making difference! I’m Here!

So, thank you to Lighthouse / Safe Harbor for giving me this wonderful career that I love deeply! Thank you, Safe Harbor of Tipton County Staff, for letting me fight by your side on this war on addiction! And thank you God for not ever giving up on me!

So, what’s going on at Safe Harbor of Tipton County? We are turning the tide! We are working tirelessly to help these men change their lives! We are focusing on families. Helping men get their court issues settled correctly. Helping them become gainfully employed, helping them find God. Getting them graduated to successful men of God that can return to their homes and be the men of God that can change the next generation!
