Welcome to 2024!
We had a wonderful Christmas period, thank you so much for all of your support. It's a lovely time of year. We are at our busiest, we get to see so many of our loyal and regular customers over December - there is nothing better - and this year was no different. When you are privileged enough to own a restaurant, there is nothing better than a full room, full of families and groups of friends and the sound of people enjoying themselves, plus the opportunity to meet them.
Our online warehouse team were nice and busy, dispatching all over the country, and our own Christmas canapes proved very popular again. Our deli was constantly busy, too. Thank you so much for choosing us as a place to dine, drink or shop.
We had gone into 2023 not being too sure if it would be the year that would finish us off. A year when our own costs kept on rising to what could have been unsustainable levels. We cannot increase our own prices by this much and have to try and absorb these. At one time, we thought that 2024 would be easier and better, but pigs might fly! New Year for us, was spent digesting a notice from Liverpool One that the service charge on our site was increasing by 59% (that is not a typo!). As well as rent and rates, we pay service charge, too. So just for Hanover Street, that is another £24,000 we need to find (a total of a quarter of million pounds just to be here!). And don't get us started on the rises coming our way on olive oil! Together with the absolute rip off from utility companies.
But the important thing is, we are still here. Fighting our corner and determined to survive. Trying everything we can to do so. The early news last week for our sector was the very sad closures of some iconic restaurants across the UK as they were unable to get through these challenging times. We still have our work cut out, but know we get so much incredible support and we can never thank you enough for that. We are doing everything we can to keep our price rises as low as we can - and survive at the same time!
We have some fabulous events coming up from next week -and for the rest of 2024. You can read about some of them below. Plus we have our best ever menu with so much more coming this year. Our deli is full of fabulous food and drink (all available online). We can't wait to see you!
Elaine and I, and our whole team, would like to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. We're still here and determined to stay around and do what we do best. Thank you and happy new year!
Peter, Elaine, Churros and our whole team x

Whole Roast Chicken in a Moritz Beer Can
This is still available every Sunday in Hanover street, pre-order only. Since it's launch in October, it has proved hugely popular and is superb value. Our great friends at Moritz brewery in Barcelona have shared with us their recipe of a whole marinated chicken roasted in the oven over a Moritz beer can. This has been taking Barcelona by storm over the last 10 years at their superb Fabrica Moritz restaurant and bar.
Served whole at the table, accompanied by your choice of tapas. It can be for two to share (half a chicken each), or up to eight (portioned up into small tapas sized portions). You just choose what accompaniments you want from our extensive tapas menu. We suggest patatas bravas, broccoli with Romesco sauce and sauteed mushrooms and asparagus, but you choose your favourites. A real Catalan meat and two veg! Book online here
