The results are in, and by a large margin, weight fees are at the top of the list, followed by congestion relief, either via shoulder riding or lane splitting/sharing.
Our weight fee bill (SB 5309), being carried by Sen. Cortes (D-18) with Sen. MacEwen (R-35) as second seat, is already under discussion and on the radar. Since our weight fees remained unchanged, we will (hopefully) not have preloaded push back. I have already spoken briefly with Sen. Liias (D-21) (Chair Senate Transportation) and have passed him, Sen. Cortes (D-18), and staff some possible language to adjust the bill to meld with the new section of the RCW covering weight fees. I have meetings with Sen. Cortes on 3 December and Sen. Liias on 5 December. I am still working on setting up a meeting with Rep. Fey (D-27) (Chair, House Transportation) for early December, but there is nothing scheduled yet. If I have nothing by 1 December, I will try to get an impromptu conversation in early December when the Joint Transportation Committee is in town.

Happy Holidays, Everyone!
Once again, we find ourselves rolling into a true Washington winter—rain, rain, and more rain. Whether you’re on 2, 3, or 4 wheels, ride safe, look out for one another, and keep that brotherhood spirit strong out there.
Looking ahead-
January 29: Motorcycle Legislation Day Training Session and social at the Olympia VFW #318 @6pm
January 30th: Stand up for Motorcycle rights! Black Friday- Motorcycle Legislation Day starts off with a 9:45 Ride in from NW Harley, coordinated by the WA COC. Meet your legislators and other freedom warriors.
January 31st: our BOD at the Olympia VFW #318 at 10am
We will be taking nominations for all of the Pro-Tem positions at the January BOD, and for the West-side Ambassador. That’s right—come join the team we’re building for the future . And if running for office isn’t your thing, please, at least make sure you vote. Your voice matters! We still need an official state products person, and East Side Ambassador at Large, also.
Let’s make this year's Motorcycle Legislation Day the strongest turnout yet! Let’s pack those steps, show our unity, and remind everyone that the biker community stands together. The flyers are out, the word is spreading, and I can’t wait to see all of you. If we haven’t met yet, don’t be shy—come introduce yourself. Brotherhood starts with a handshake.
As I’ve said before, and I mean it every time: my door is always open. I want to hear what you’re thinking—your ideas, your concerns, and how we can keep improving. This organization runs on volunteers, heart, and communication. We’re in this together, and together we are stronger advocating for motorcycle rights.
With all that said—be good, ride safe, and enjoy a fantastic Turkey Day. Gobble gobble till you wobble wobble! We are the voice. Let’s keep supporting our neighboring ABATE chapters, community organizations, our supporting businesses and the MRF. Also—ABATE of Washington will be out at the Olympia Toy Run (see flyer and story in this month's newsletter!) Come by and say hi! Brothers, sisters, and all our riders—much love, much respect, and Happy Holidays.
Ride free!

Senior Deputy Coordinator,
Hello everyone,
I want to take a moment to thank all of you for your continued dedication and hard work. Over the past weeks, we have all been putting in the effort—going through details, addressing concerns, and working together—to help make ABATE successful. Your commitment truly shows, and I appreciate every one of you.
If you have any questions, suggestions, or ideas that you believe can help strengthen our organization, please feel free to reach out to me directly. I am always open to hearing from our members. You can contact me at: srdeputy.abateofwashington@outlook.com
I would also like to acknowledge the recent Veterans Day Parade held on Saturday, November 8th, where South King County Chapter hosted a booth. It was wonderful to attend, and I deeply appreciate all the chapters that came out to support and participate in this important event. Your presence made a meaningful impact.
For the time being, I will be overseeing all events and working directly with the committee chairs to help ensure everything runs smoothly. I look forward to collaborating with all of you as we move ahead.
Wishing you and your families a safe and happy Thanksgiving.
Thank you.

Wow, almost December and I'd like to throw out a reminder that tis the season for spreading the support! If possible, get out and try to support other chapters and their seasonal fund raisers, it's the time of the year where every donation is needed and welcomed. With that in mind, if you're riding to the events, be extra cautious, lots of leaves and pine needles on the roads with all this wind and rain we've been having.
News flash, we have Eric Lundt as our Swap meet guy for 2026! Eric will be heading up this year's swap meet and we're expecting good things from him and his crew. If you have questions or concerns you can email me at my Jr Dep email or contact Eric.
That's it for now...
Share the love!

Greetings Fellow Freedom Warriors!
I hope this finds you all well as we begin to settle into that time of year where there's less riding and more community service, do gooder shit happening in your communities and perhaps your chapters. Not that there's anything wrong with that, not a thing but I wonder if that's why you joined ABATE if you've been a member for 10 years or more? Is it?
I've been a member for over 10 years, and it certainly wasn't why I joined. I was hoping to help get the helmet law changed by being part of the organization that had a history of pushing for this type of legislation change. It was still an issue then, but it obviously didn't stay on the agenda for too much longer after I joined.
What happened? There was a shift in priorities along with letting in some creeping defeatism. We invested years on that issue, at one point got a hearing and even had a Rep introduce a pilot program to collect data but unfortunately had no good results in the end and ultimately we gave up.

Happy December!
Wishing everyone great Holiday Events and Toy Runs!
With Thanksgiving in the mirrors and December upon us, it’s a good reminder to never let our passion for motorcycle rights dim. Remaining actively involved in all of the aspects that affect us, as riders, is a full-time job. This means supporting other Chapter events, and stepping out of the box and reaching out to other transportation entities as well. Are we engaging with the other road using communities to learn and share? Are we attending zoom meetings, like DOT and the WA Motorcycle Safety and Education Advisory Board, so readily available, while we sip our favorite beverage from the comfort of our chair?

Hi Everyone,
Curious how we stack up in membership amongst our fellow ABATE organizations through out the United States? Here's our latest membership report.
Got questions? Email: Membership.abateofwashington@gmail.com
| | |
I was able to attend the MRF BOD meeting as a guest. 1⁄2 the Board, committee directors were elected to positions. The MRF looks out 3-5 years in their budget preparations. Membership is 15-20 per month. Up from last year. Everyone on the Board is responsible for getting new members. 2026 Meeting of the Minds will be in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Fred – events, This year the highest pre-registration for Meeting of the Minds.
MRF works across the isle – Legislation works together to build relationships with COC and ABATE. MRF is on a lot of other boards and committees. The MRF has national relationships with Harley-Davidson, Indian, Buell, other brands. Also, Cyclesource.
MRF A&E (Awareness & Education) committee spoke on their activities.
MRF Lobbyist – Rocky - MRF is good position at this time get priorities passed in the highway bill – items that come
under the highway department. Last time Highway bill passed was when House/Senate/President are all the same party
which was in 2021 everyone was Democrat. Now all three areas are Republican. Very good chance everything will pass.
The MAC (Motorcycle Advisory Council) was terminated this summer because the current administration clean house of
all appointees from the prior president. Now Trump is reorganizing the MAC. MRF is working on getting the MRF seat
back and having Jay Jackson, VP for MRF as our representative.
MRF board meeting closed now to vote and have private discussion not open to public.
All WA delegates went to register for conference, dinner and go to the Meet & Greet of all attendees. Then we went to
hospitality room for food & refreshments.

I can pretty much say that I love motorcycles. How about you? Motorcycles and motorcycling is a huge part of my life and, dare I say, a large part of who I am. Motorcycles have taken me all over the USA to see impressive sights, introduced me to new cultures, and the opportunity to learn about others. I owe a lot to motorcycles. I love them enough to make a sacrifice if my freedom to ride is compromised/threatened.
What do you think will happen if motorcycles are suddenly outlawed?
Why would policymakers want to outlaw/ban motorcycles? Is it because they are dangerous machines? Dangerous machines that pollute the earth and cost thousands of lives daily? It is the effort of some to preserve the environment and save lives, and boot motorcycles not just off the road, but out of existence. In their place, autonomous vehicles. Heck, that part of the equation is already here!
Making things more interesting is that similar laws are in place in countries outside the USA. Can you say, "Right to Repair?" "Internal Combustion Engine?" "Emission Regulations." "Helmet Laws." "Exhaust Systems and Sound Testing," Such laws bring predictable results. Some fully appreciate and follow the new law, while others object to it, and some engage in protests, violence, and rioting. Ultimately, The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) faces these thorny issues. With the help of active lobbyists in Washington, D.C., and the grassroots lobbyists: YOU and ME, we watch it all. From the readily apparent actions and bills dropped, to those “not so much” evident. All in the name of Freedom of the Road.

2026: A Compressed Calendar
The Critical Next 13 Months
| As the nation emerges from the longest government shutdown in history, the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) is preparing for a fast-paced and politically charged 13-plus months in Washington, D.C. Midterm election years always bring a compressed congressional schedule. 2026 will be no exception. On average, the U.S. House of Representatives meets just 130 days in even-numbered years. The Senate averages 142, which is roughly three weeks fewer than in non-election years. | | |
|
MRF PAC Gears Up To Support
Biker-Friendly Candidates
| |
In just a little over a year, voters across the country will head to the polls for the 2026 midterm elections. While it may seem far off, the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) and the MRF Political Action Committee (PAC) are already preparing for this critical election cycle.
The MRF PAC, while a separate entity from the MRF, is affiliated and plays a vital role in advancing the priorities of motorcyclists in Washington, D.C. Through donations from riders and supporters, the MRF PAC works to elect and support candidates, regardless of party, who stand up for the rights and freedoms of America’s motorcyclists.

KEY PENINSULA -
Ho Ho Ho...
Greetings from the Pen!!!!
Here we are folks, it is hard to believe we are already closing out another year...that means Santa and Krampus are inbound for the holiday season.
We recently assisted North Kitsap with delivering the collection barrels to our many long time supporting establishments around Kitsap and Mason Counties for the 2025 Annual Toy Run. All the while understanding this one may be another tough one, due to the Bozos in DC playing politics and being derelict in their duties and responsibilities for which they chose to take office for, and the toll and impact it will have on families! In either case, we are certain that our communities will rise to the occasion, and whatever we are able to collect and deliver to St. Michael's on December 14th at approximately 1230, will be greatly appreciated.
The chapter will be hosting our "After Holiday Party" at VFW Post 2669 in Port Orchard in January, actual date TBD (either 10th or 17th). Keep your eye out for more details forthcoming via our FB page or the events calendar. Pencil in your calendars now, and If you would like to join us for a fun night of games and holiday spirit fellowship, please reach out to RSVP for planning purposes.
Toy Run Schedule:
Dec 13th Toy Barrel pick up day:
0700- Breakfast @ That One Place KSU 0840- Laying Wreaths at Retsil with Veterans Allegiance
Immediately after Retsil
meet at Hi-Tide Bar and Grill.
KSU @ 11:00.
Dec 14th:
10:00- Breakfast at Putters
12:15 KSU
12:30 Deliver to St. Michael's
Here's wishing you all a safe, healthy, relaxing and very Merry Christmas and an even better New Year from the Pen!
We look forward to seeing you all next year, starting with either a Polar Plunge or Black Friday!!!

SKCC-
Happy Holidays everyone.
I'm happy to report that the Auburn Veterans Day parade was a big success. The weather was dry and mostly sunny, we signed up 3 veterans as ABATE members and we met lots of nice people. SKCC was pleased to share our booth with Kim Adair, our local MRF rep and we were even visited by our Sr. Deputy Coordinator Susan Star Carson. It was also fun having family carry the SKCC banner and leading our chapter in the parade.
On the 15th SKCC had our first annual spaghetti feed to fund Wreaths Across America and it was a big success. With the proceeds, we were able to purchase approx. 75 wreaths to be placed on veterans graves at Mt. Tahoma veterans cemetery, that will happen in December. We had support from Star Lake, East Pierce, Tacoma, Independents, if I missed someone I apologize, it was a very busy night.
My personal Thank You to all of you that helped make it a success.

Olympia Toy Run
December 6th, 2025
| CLICK IMAGE TO VIEW FLYER |
| | The Olympia Toy Run officially began in 1977 by “Santa Joe” Sullivan and his biker friends. They wanted to provide gifts to children whose families could not afford them at Christmastime and build a better relationship between the local community and the biker community. That vision has impacted thousands of children and families in our communities over the years and continues to do so year after year, collecting millions in money and toys. Each year, the Olympia Toy Run collects toys throughout the community beginning in November with the help of community business partners who have toy drop-off boxes. On the first Saturday in December, the Olympia Toy Run holds their annual run event at South Sound Center in Lacey, WA (I-5 and Sleater Kinney Rd/Gates open at 10:00am). This is a fantastic community event. There are food vendors, merchandise vendors, motorcycles, performances, and the parade of bikes leave around 1:00pm to travel through Lacey, then downtown Olympia to Marathon Park. This year is our 48th Annual Toy Run and it will be held on Saturday, December 6th, 2025 – rain or shine!
