ABATE OF WASHINGTON

September 2025 UPDATES

STATE COORDINATOR'S REPORT

September 2025

What is A.B.A.T.E.

A Brotherhood Against Totalitarian Enactments

ABATE is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the Freedom of the Road. Ensure your freedom by fighting anti-bike legislation and promoting fair motorcycle legislation. ABATE does not advocate that you ride without a helmet when the law is repealed, only that you have the right to decide.

During these troubling times, we all need to remember what ABATE of Washington is about. We are here to fight for motorcyclist's rights. If we continue to be divided, we cannot accomplish our goals. These times will pass & we will have a bigger & better organization, we just need to remember why we joined ABATE.

Nominations for the pro-tem appointment for State Coordinator will take place October 19th, during the Board of Directors meeting.

Thank you,

Jeff “Bubba” Bowen

Acting State Coordinator

MOTORCYCLE RIDERS FOUNDATION

🎈MRF Celebrates

"Chopper" Charlie Gilmore

Sturgis Hall Of Fame Induction

The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) proudly congratulates “Chopper” Charlie Gilmore on his induction into the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum Hall of Fame as the 2025 recipient of the Freedom Fighter Award.

A legend in the motorcycling world, Charlie’s journey began in the 1960s with a passion for riding that evolved into a lifelong commitment to rider rights and motorcycle culture. As a Vietnam veteran, ordained minister, and former national chaplain of the Sons of Silence, Charlie has lived a life defined by service, both to his country and to the motorcycling community.

⏱️Time’s almost up. What are you going to do about it?

Every day you wait is another day Congress, federal agencies, and regulators tighten the noose on your rights, your bike, and your lifestyle. They’ve got time, money, and momentum. You? You’ve got this moment to step up, ride out, show up, and fight back.

The Motorcycle Riders Foundation isn’t here to play nice -- we’re here to win. And the Meeting of the Minds is where serious bikers, badass advocates, and no-bullshit leaders unite to strategize, train, and push back.

September 25–28. Sam’s Town. Shreveport. Be there — or be left out.

Florida Jury: Tesla Partially Liable

A Florida jury’s decision this month to hold Tesla partially liable for a fatal crash involving its Autopilot system has sent shockwaves through the auto industry. It also has motorcyclists’ rights groups reminding people of our concerns.

A jury found that Tesla bore partial responsibility for a 2019 crash in Key Largo, FL, that claimed the life of a woman and seriously injured her boyfriend. The driver had engaged Tesla’s Autopilot system and trusted that the car would see what the driver could not. It didn’t. The vehicle plowed into a parked car at over 60 miles per hour.

💰NHTSA Cancels MAC

This afternoon, Jay Jackson, Motorcycle Riders Foundation Vice President and appointee to the U.S. Motorcyclist Advisory Council (MAC), was notified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that his appointment has been terminated. We are shocked and disappointed by this decision and are still gathering information. It appears the other appointees have received similar notifications.

The MAC was created by an act of Congress in November 2021. Yet despite a requirement in the law to establish the MAC within 90 days, it took until 2023 for the nomination process to begin. It wasn’t until the summer of 2024 that the members of the MAC were selected.

🔥..Not That Line Of Fire

Pay attention. It doesn’t matter if you’ve ridden everything from a “rat rod” chopper to the latest model rolling off your dealer’s showroom. You ride is what matters and you’re in the line of fire.

Fact: Right now, in statehouses and on Capitol Hill, there are people writing laws to control how you ride, what you wear, what you breathe, and what you build.

American Income Life - FREE Accidental Life & Dismemberment

We’ve renewed the group Accidental Death and Dismemberment policy providing all active members of ABATE of Washington with $4,000 AD&D coverage, 24 hours a day, on and off the job.

There is no cost to you for this coverage.

Dear Members,

You will be receiving a letter from American Income Life Insurance Company (AIL). As a member of ABATE of WA you qualify to receive a $4,000 Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance benefit at no cost to you or ABATE of WA. We have partnered with AIL for several years to offer these benefits.

Each letter will have a reply card enclosed and by completing the information you will receive your certificate of coverage. An AIL representative will contact you to confirm your beneficiary and issue you a certificate of coverage. If you do not name a beneficiary, the $4,000.00 would be paid to your estate and may be taxable.

ABATE of WA does not provide your name or any contact information to AIL. The only way they have access to your information is when you send the reply card back or CLICK HERE to request your benefits. There are several supplemental programs available through AIL for you to choose from, which will be discussed when an AIL

representative calls.

If you have any questions, please contact Fran Christie, AIL Public Relations, directly at 778-231-0226 or contact AIL at 1-800-495-1213.

Over numerous years AIL has helped ABATE of WA families by paying over 90 Accidental Death claims.

ABATE of WA has no financial interest in AIL in any way.

SKCC

Hello from SKCC

Wow what riding weather we’ve been blessed with so far…maybe a little warm here and there but great overall. On Aug. 9th we held our Tony Corp memorial ride and I’m here to brag a bit…we have some of the most generous members and Independents. With about 14 bikes and some cages we were able to raise almost $2,000.00 to help MaryAnn, Tony’s wife. A lot of Tony’s family were in attendance and it was a special day for certain, a huge thank you to all that participated. By the time you read this you’ll be gearing up to go visit our sister chapter EPCC for their annual Teddy Bear Run, it’s always a great family event. And then the event our SKCC family looks forward to every year, our Family Campout. It’s a great way to enjoy a couple days of food, games and comradery with our fellow SKCC brothers and sisters, sitting around the campfire and soaking up the beautiful mid-summer nights.
