chicken dinner

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!

Did you ever wonder where this phrase started?

The legend tells that years ago every casino in Las Vegas had a three-piece chicken dinner with a potato and a veggie for $1.79. A standard bet then was $2 dollars, hence when you won a bet you had enough for a chicken dinner. So, the call of glorious victory rang out “Winner Winner Chicken Dinner”

Since we are heading to Las Vegas in 2 months, we are hoping that every player will call out this phrase and in anticipation of this, we have added even more ways to win. We still will be paying 10 spots for the tournament (including one for last place), 12 high rounds, 4 special hands every session, 4 self-picked big hand, $5 dollars every time you make mahjongg on your very last pick, under the line, 2 minis, 12 gift certificates, 2 50/50’s for charities, door prizes from our vendors, and a drawing for a free weekend to one lucky player. But starting with this tournament we will add something fun related to this event and each one to follow. So, in saying goodbye to the 2021 card (we will still be using the current 2021 card) we will pay $10 dollars to 21 players every session who makes a hand under the 2021 section on the card. And then you can yell out, "winner winner chicken dinner!!"

So, for Piscataway in April, we will do the reverse and say hello to the 2022 card and announce before the tournament the amounts that will be paid.

In Charleston, anyone who stops the Charleston and makes the hand will win $5 dollars.

Stay tuned for the additions to the additions to the tournaments to follow.

You will see two very familiar faces in Vegas not as tournament directors but as players. We will be joined by the amazing Gladys Grad (Mah Jongg Madness) and the fantastic Joanne Bourne (Four Seasons MJT). These two have mentored us and let us take their legacies to a new level. Be sure to stay hi to these two great ladies.

Around the Map

road map of us

Tampa, what can we say about this tournament except that whatever could go wrong did but despite that, we had 148 very happy players and a great weekend due to my amazing partner and daughter and her team of Joanne, Gwen, and Marcia.

After 3 canceled flights starting Wednesday before the tournament, Mark and I arrived Saturday morning during the second round. During these 3 days, we learned that one of our shipped boxes containing our scorecards, player cards, all the south envelopes (that is why your neck badges were handwritten), table numbers, extension cords, flyers, and I could keep going on and on and on were destroyed during shipping. Even our banner took a beating. This team improvised and with everyone‘s help pulled off a miracle and made it a successful event.

We already have our contract for next year for those who missed out this year and will be on our website shortly.

Las Vegas is still heating up and you have options to sign up as a commuter, commuter plus, double or single. All the information is on our website and for those who have credit vouchers or gift certificates, it is a great time to use them so feel free to call us to register.

Piscataway in April has plenty of room and ironically after canceling January due to Covid, mother nature decided to dump a blizzard on us. Joanne Bourne never had a problem in 20 years due to snow.

Charleston is sold out of rooms, but we have room for commuters. We are finalizing our contract for next year and have added more rooms to accommodate all those who missed out this year.

All the rest are filling up so book, Lancaster, Savannah, Foxwoods, and Sacramento.

TROPICANA IN ATLANTIC CITY

tropicana in atlantic city

Like our predecessors before us, Mah Jongg Fever is going to Atlantic City on October 16th, 17th, and 18th. This hotel boasts some of the best restaurants and shops plus gambling. It will be on our website shortly and there will be sign-ups for commuters, those who are comped at another hotel, doubles, triples, and singles. All will receive 2 continental breakfasts, lunch, and the tournament fee. This will be a great event with great prizes so start planning your calendar now!

NEW Q&A

Several players have asked for a Q&A section where they can submit questions for discussion.  Please send any inquiries to [email protected] and we will post them with our response accordingly.

WHAT MAKES MAHJONGG FEVER STAND OUT?

stand out person

There are several things that we do to make our tournaments so special for our players.

We feel it is important to give a full credit voucher after a 30-day cancelation so that you do not lose your deposit or money as we understand that things happen.

ALL the money collected in our minis and try to pay several places so that many have a chance to come in the money.

At every tournament, we have 3 alternates so that you NEVER will have to play at a 3 player table.

Lastly, we have been so fortunate to be recognized by some well-known names in the mahjongg community and they have sent the following testimonials.

Gladys Grad (Mah Jongg Madness)

“As many of you know, mah jongg is my life. I fully expected to take my last breath at the age of 90 at a mah jongg tournament, with my microphone in my hand, and a thousand eyes waiting for me to start the tournament countdown clock. But then I met Barbara Baer and her daughter, Jennifer. We made a deal that none of us could refuse! They are taking Mah Jongg Fever's incredible formula to have the best and best known mah jongg tournaments in America by accomplishing new heights in levels of fun, adventure, excitement, and fair play. Kudos to you, dear Barbara and Jennifer!”

Joanne Bourne (Four Seasons MJT)

“I have the utmost respect for Barbara and Jennifer. They have taken Mah Jongg tournaments to another level. Their integrity is above reproach. I have attended several of their tournaments and the prize for picking Mahj on the last tile was ingenious and enjoyed by those who are lucky enough to experience it. They have made tournaments fun to attend. I could have not passed the baton to a more worthy pair. Best of luck going forward Mah Jongg Fever."

Jan Egri (Mah Jongg That’s It)

“When Barbara and Jennifer took over the responsibility of two very established tournament businesses and formed the new and exciting Mahjongg Fever, they had some very big shoes to fill. They took this foundation and built it up to include some new and innovative ways to make tournaments more exciting. They have brought their tournaments to new locations so the players can explore the area during their downtime, which includes fabulous restaurants, arts, and of course shopping. Their vision is to make their tournaments a truly avant-garde experience that will become a new norm for the industry.”

Peace Love Mahjongg, Dara and Donna (Modern Mahjongg)

“Congratulations to Barbara and Jenn on your successful merging of two incredible mahjongg tournament businesses. We know with your love of the game knowledge and attention to detail, Mah Jongg Fever has already hosted successful tournaments and you will continue to create an incredible atmosphere for players to experience tournaments in exciting venues throughout the US. Players are lucky to have you continue in the legacies of Gladys Grad and Joanne Bourne. ModernMahjongg.com is looking forward to being a vendor at future tournaments.“
