Dear Orange County Community,

As we come closer to the end of the year and prepare to welcome the new year, I am honored to reflect on the progress, partnerships, and student achievements that continue to define the mission of High School Inc. Across our academies and programs, this season has highlighted the profound impact that meaningful collaboration and shared purpose can create for our future generation.

This year, we continue to celebrate our expansion to Century High School with the addition of the E-Business Academy, an exciting step already creating new opportunities for our students. Looking ahead, we will build on this momentum by adding the Esports Pathway next year, further strengthening our commitment to preparing students for the future.

The dedication of our board, staff, teachers, business partners, mentors, and the community, remains central to creating environments where students can explore their futures in Culinary & Hospitality, Healthcare, Automotive, New Media, Global Business, E-Business, Engineering & Computer Science, Biomedical Science, Esports, and beyond.

None of this work is possible without the generosity and partnership of the Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce, Santa Ana Unified School District, Anaheim Union High School District, our donors, business partners, and community supporters.

Your investment in our mission directly translates into expanded opportunities, innovative learning experiences, and a stronger, more equitable future for students in Santa Ana, Anaheim and across Orange County. We are deeply grateful for your continued trust and engagement.

As we enter the holiday season, I extend my warmest wishes to our students, families, educators, donors, and community partners. May this season bring you peace, connection, and time to reflect on the contributions you have made to the lives of young people in our community.

We look forward to the year ahead with optimism and determination as we continue preparing students for college, career, and life.

On behalf of High School Inc. Academies Foundation, thank you for your support and for believing in our mission.

Wishing you a joyful holiday season and a prosperous New Year 2026.

Sincerely,

Felix Lugo, MSM, CNP

Your gift today

changes a student’s tomorrow.

Giving Tuesday is tomorrow and your support will help High School Inc. provide life-changing hands-on learning, career pathways, and opportunities students can’t get anywhere else. Give now, because their future can’t wait.

On November 19, our BTE Junior Cohort visited Johnson & Johnson’s Electrophysiology (EP) Department, where they explored how engineering and technology support lifesaving work in treating heart rhythm disorders like AFib. Students toured the EP facilities, tested out devices, and learned how different roles within engineering and science contribute to healthcare innovation.

They also participated in a hands-on activity showing what it takes to bring a product from idea to market working in teams to develop a concept, understand team roles, and pitch to “investors.” This experience gave students valuable insight into product development, the potential for investor interest, and how strong business models drive successful innovation.

This experience broadened students’ insight into the innovation process, helping them see how technical skills, business strategy, and healthcare knowledge all play a role in creating solutions that truly make a difference.

Sophomore

Mock Interviews

On November 19, our Global Business Academy (GBA) sophomore students participated in mock interviews, arriving prepared and dressed for success as they put their interviewing skills into action. We are grateful to our Board Members ,Paula Garcia-Arsenault and Mitch Siegel and to Susan Dixon of Success With Purpose, an original GBA volunteer, for assembling an incredible team of professionals to support the process.

Volunteers shared valuable feedback, coached students on communication and confidence, and helped them understand what employers look for, giving students an important step toward becoming future-ready young professionals.

Junior Market Day Pitches

On November 20, our Global Business Academy junior students presented their Market Day Pitches to a panel of business partners. Students showcased their product ideas, pricing strategies, cost analysis, marketing plans, and slide presentations as they put their entrepreneurial learning into practice.

We were fortunate to have volunteers from Bank of America and US Alliance Group, who asked thoughtful questions, provided industry-level feedback, and guided students in strengthening their business models. Their expertise helped students deepen their understanding of entrepreneurship and sharpen the skills they will carry into college, careers, and future leadership roles.

Dancing with the

Santa Ana Stars

The Dancing with the Santa Ana Stars event at the Performing Arts Center at Valley High School last month was a huge success!

Thank you to our talented Culinary Academy students, who showcased their skills and helped cater this memorable evening. Your professionalism and creativity elevated the entire experience.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to Paula, our High School Inc. Board Vice President, for proudly representing High School Inc. on the stage. Your dedication, energy, and commitment to our mission truly shine.

Connecting Biomedical Science students directly with the industry

Our Biomedical Science Pathway program at Century High School has secured several exciting field trips for the upcoming Spring 2026 semester. Students will have the opportunity to visit leading biomedical companies, including Amgen, Edwards Lifesciences, and Masimo, among others. We are looking forward to this collaboration and the valuable learning experiences it will provide for our students.

E-Business Academy Students

Dominate Elevator & Sales Pitch Competitions

Our E-Business Academy students had their first trade show of the 2025–2026 school year with approximately 30 companies in attendance. Century High School senior company, Global Plate, represented our Century exceptionally well. Led by CEO Laura Garcia and COO Giselle Carreno, Global Plate placed in the top three in two of the three competitions.

Their VP of Marketing, Carolina Campos, delivered a live elevator pitch and earned an impressive 2nd Place. In the Sales Pitch competition, Cordehlia Garrett received a perfect score from both judges, securing 1st Place.

We also partnered with the MACC Farm, supported by High School Inc., where students learned about farming practices and produce, perfectly aligning with the topics covered in their coursework. Currently, our class is preparing for their upcoming competition, which will begin at the start of December.

High School Inc.

Ambassador Program

This month, our Ambassadors of High School Inc. held their first sessions. We have over 50 Ambassadors who are eager to develop their leadership abilities. This month’s focus was on communication skills, where students learned the three key components of effective public speaking: Clarity, Confidence, and Connection. They also had the opportunity to practice real-world scenarios with their peers, helping them build both skill and confidence.

From the MACC Farm

We are thrilled to share that we’ve successfully distributed 232 MACC soup kits to families in need this month. Each kit is thoughtfully assembled by our dedicated team, ensuring that every family receives not only nourishing ingredients but also a sense of care and compassion. What makes these soup kits truly special is the variety we provide. Every box features a different recipe each week, giving families the chance to enjoy new flavors and simple, wholesome meals. From hearty vegetable blends to flavorful seasonal creations, each recipe is selected with love and prepared with the intention of bringing comfort to the table. Thank you for helping us continue this meaningful work.

We are also incredibly proud to celebrate Dr. Sabina Giakoumis who is the curriculum specialist at the MACC and was recently honored with an Outstanding STEM Educator Award. Her dedication to the MACC and her unwavering commitment to serving the community shine through in everything she does. She continually goes above and beyond to inspire young minds, support families, and strengthen the impact of our work. We are truly thrilled and deeply grateful to be partnered with someone whose passion and leadership make a real difference every day.

Our Magnolia High School photography students recently had the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience by photographing our produce boxes for an upcoming website update. Split into small groups, each team received a box and got creative with staging, using different areas of the farm as their backdrop. They experimented with angles, composition, and even brought out lighting equipment to capture the perfect shot. It was an exciting blend of technical skill and artistic vision, and we’re proud to see them applying their learning in such a meaningful, real-world project.

“It’s the first of its kind in the country. It’s designed to be an urban agriscience laboratory. This is going to transform the community from a food desert to a food and health care oasis.” - AUHSD Superintendent Dr. Michael Matsuda
