News from the Director

Dear Friend,

It is 2:40pm and traffic comes to a slow stop on Center Street in Wolfeboro. There is a clamor of excitement as smiling faces pour off the school bus. They are the faces of the Kingswood Youth Center (KYC)!

Who are the faces of the KYC? They are our high school and middle school students: the young men and woman who are the future leaders of our community. They're remarkably talented and have so much potential to be uncovered and nurtured.

The KYC's caring and qualified staff and volunteers offer more than 500 hours of enriching programs each year. All programs are free and include a hot meal! Programs focus on practical life-skills, substance misuse prevention, leadership, community engagement, outdoor recreation, mentoring and academic support.
More than half of the students that attend the after school program reside at, or below, the poverty line. With guidance, many will be the first in their families to earn a college degree. Some have faced challenges that most can hardly fathom. They all face the familiar challenge of growing up and navigating the transitions of adolescence. They all want to succeed, reach their goals and live meaningful lives.

They all need and deserve the support of our entire community as they grow, learn, and transition towards adulthood!

Plans and startup funding are in place to expand the KYC programs to include in school one-to-one mentoring services during the 2018-2019 school year. This expansion will allow the KYC to impart a more individualized impact upon teens in particular need of nurturing and support.

There are many ways a donation can help the KYC continue meeting the growing needs of our community's youth population. Our mission depends on your support. The KYC is a 501(c) 3 organization and all donations are tax deductible.

Sincerely,

The KYC Board of Directors, Staff and Youth Members

KYC's Summer Program
Over summer break, the KYC offered 80 hours of programs for KYC members. We drove all over the state, enjoying the outdoors and each other's
company.

We hiked Red Hill in Moultonboro
At the top of Mt. Roberts in Tuftonboro
Visiting Lakes Region Community College
We worked on fundraising in downtown Wolfeboro
We hiked to Devil's Den in New Durham, and we checked out the cave!
We spent a day at Fun Spot in Laconia
We went to Seabrook and swam in the ocean in the name of Substance Misuse Prevention
We visited The Libby Museum in Wolfeboro
Using our new bikes, we rode into Wolfeboro and then had a cookout at Albee Beach
And the biggest challenge of the summer: hiking the 10th highest peak in New Hampshire, Mt. Moosilauke!
The day before students went back to school, we had our last hurrah. We hiked Belknap Mt. in Gilford and then enjoyed ice cream and swimming in Alton Bay.
How We Give Back
The KYC values community involvement and giving back. The week before Halloween, we hosted the "Kingswood Spook Center." This event was planned and run by KYC participants. Teens staffed each "booth," which included games, a coloring contest, cupcake decorating and a prize table! Families with children joined us for this free event.

KYC members also spent Halloween evening giving back. The group handed out cake and hot cocoa to Trick-or-Treat'ers in downtown Wolfeboro.

THANK YOU TO KYC PARTICIPANTS FOR ALL YOU DO!

Skills for a Lifetime at the KYC

Our mission:
The Kingswood Youth Center provides a safe and positive environment in which youth may grow, learn and develop life skills critical to their success in the adult world.

Life skills are a paramount part of our organization's mission. That's why we are excited to launch our, "Skills for a Lifetime," program this year. The program is made up of six phases.
Right now we are in the first phase, which is Goal Setting. So far we have focused on setting goals in Education, Employment, Families and Relationships, and Hobbies and Travel. We will keep you updated on how it's going!
