Pastor's Update

Hi Parkway People --

Hello from Kansas City! Becky, Meagan, and I are here for the rest of the week at Leadership Institute at Church of the Resurrection — the largest UMC in the world. Through the week we'll get to hear different ideas from people in ministry from across the world. We're hoping to bring some great ideas and inspiration back to Parkway!

On that note, it's good to remind you that, because we are gone, there are no Wednesday groups or studies for children, students, or adults this Wednesday, September 30th! We will pick back up on Wednesdays next week on October 7th.

Parkway Garden Update

Last Sunday, I announced that our garden working group had picked back up with the redesign of the Parkway Gardens now that the worst of the summer heat is over and we can think about putting trees in the ground.

With our decision to pause garden work several months ago to both wait out the summer and divert fundraising efforts towards Creative Dreams Outreach Center, the garden working group had a chance to go back to the drawing board to determine the next step in our long-term project to redesign and renovate the gardens. Here's where we landed:

The garden working group met this past week with a prayer labyrinth designer and are exploring the idea of installing a permanent prayer labyrinth as a focal piece of the gardens. A prayer labyrinth is a series of paths walked prayerfully and contemplatively towards a center, and then back out again. It's a prayer tradition that dates back to medieval Europe and, for many, a way of experiencing prayer beyond closing your eyes and folding your hands.

As a part of exploring this next step and inviting Parkway to be involved in it, I am leading a series of prayer walks at other labyrinths in the Houston area. The first walk will be on Saturday, October 10th at Tom Bass regional park in Houston. You can meet at Parkway at 8.30am to carpool or just meet us over at the park around 9am. Whether you have walked a labyrinth before or had not even heard of one until this email, you're invited to join, learn, and explore this new possibility for the Parkway Gardens.

Children's Day Camp During Fall Break

Parkway is hosting a day camp during the October school break for children ages 4 years old through 6th grade. We offer Bible based curriculum in a fun and safe environment! Each day includes a Bible Story, Science, Craft, Games, and more!

  • $38/day
  • 9am - 2pm
  • Age 4 years through 6th grade
  • Please pack a water bottle, lunch, and snack!

You can register for the day camp HERE.

Parkway at the Park

Becky Betz, Director of Children's Ministry, is hosting another Parkway at the Park! On October 17th, families are invited to meet Ms. Becky at Pecan Park right here in New Territory for snacks and playtime on the playground. This is a great and easy event for kids to build relationships with each other and for Parkway families to meet and build community. No sign up or rsvp needed, just show up! See you there!

Trunk or Treat

This year Parkway will host Trunk or Treat on Friday, October 30th from 6.30 - 7.30pm right here in the Parkway parking lot. If you would like to decorate your trunk and hand out candy, you can RSVP HERE. If you'd like to donate candy, the donation bins will be out in the Worship Center and Ministry Center lobby starting this Sunday!

See you Sunday!
