Fall is for farms, festivals & fresh air!

Fall festival season is off to a great start in September with the Bel Air Festival for the Arts, Plein Air Festival, Susquehanna Running Festival, Pawpaw Celebration, Harford Wine Festival and Italian Festival, to name a few. In fact, we have more than 70 events on our calendar this month alone! Check out HelloHarford.com for the full lineup.

September is also perfect for outdoor adventures. Visit one of our local farms, go apple picking, stop by a farm market, or grab a friend or your four-legged BFF and hit the trails at one of our many parks.

And one more place to find Hello Harford inspiration: I recently started a short segment on Harford TV! Each month, I’ll be sharing updates, upcoming events and ideas for getting out and experiencing more of what’s right here in Harford County.

Fall in love with Harford: get out there and enjoy it!

Collaboration Corner

The Harford Mom

This month, we’re excited to highlight our collaboration with The Harford Mom, founded by lifelong Harford County resident and mom, Ange Reynolds. What started five years ago as an Instagram account sharing local places to explore has grown into a go-to resource with tens of thousands of followers looking for family-friendly adventures, local businesses, events, hidden gems and more throughout Harford County.

Our collaboration involves resource-sharing and cross-promotion on our respective platforms, with the understanding that our community plays an important role in the visitor experience. Residents are often the first resource for visiting friends and family and some of our visitors are families looking for exactly the type of information The Harford Mom does so well.

By working together, we can help families - whether they live here or are just visiting - more easily discover things to see, do and experience throughout the county. It also gives our tourism partners another opportunity to reach an engaged family audience and helps our residents become some of Harford County’s best ambassadors. Check out her newly launched website below

Great partnerships help us tell a bigger story, reach new audiences and make it easier for everyone to discover more of Harford County!

Pro-tip of the Month

Look Outside Your Industry

Great marketing isn’t just about what an advertisement says; it’s about how it makes you feel.

As marketers, we naturally follow others in our own industries and sometimes “borrow” tactics or ideas that work. This month, I challenge you to broaden that circle. Start following a few brands completely outside of your industry. Pay attention to the advertisements that make you stop, smile, laugh, feel inspired or leave you wanting to learn more. Then ask yourself: What did they do to make me feel that way?

Was it the imagery? The music? The storytelling? The humor? The simplicity of the message?

Inspiration is all around us. Sometimes, we just have to look beyond our usual circle to find it.

Venue Spotlight

Fiore Winery

This month, we were honored to join the Maryland Wineries Association and Maryland Department of Agriculture in celebrating an incredible milestone - 40 years of Fiore Winery!

Located on a family farm in Pylesville, Fiore began with just 50 grapevines. In 1986 it became Maryland’s 12th bonded winery and it’s now one of the longest standing wineries statewide. The family-owned and operated business spans three generations and has expanded to include a distillery alongside its winery and vineyard.

For four decades, the Fiore family has been part of Harford County’s agricultural and tourism story, welcoming visitors to experience locally produced wine, beautiful countryside and a family legacy rooted right here in our community.

Congratulations to the entire Fiore family on 40 years and cheers to many more!

Level Up Your Skills

We’re excited that Hello Harford is joining Harford County’s Economic Development’s Level Up Learning Series to bring our tourism stakeholders training topics relevant to our industry. These free sessions are designed to provide practical tools, resources and skills that can help you market, strengthen and grow your business or organization.

Our first Hello Harford topic will be Creating Graphics with Canva, scheduled for November 17 at 11:00 a.m. Whether you’re creating social media graphics, event promotions, flyers or other marketing materials, this session will offer tips to help you make the most of this popular design platform.

We hope you’ll take advantage of these free training opportunities. We also want your feedback and ideas on future topics so we can continue offering useful resources to our tourism community.

Reminder: Sign Up for Greater Exposure

Keep submitting your events and new tourism related business openings through our portal! Our events calendar is a key promotional tool across Hello Harford marketing efforts, media opportunities, hotel partnerships, and advertising campaigns. Since our website serves as the call to action for much of our advertising, having your events and businesses listed helps maximize visibility and exposure for your business and events.

Fun Fact

Have you ever tried pawpaw? This unique fruit is native to our region and has a surprisingly tropical flavor. I think it tastes like a cross between mango and papaya - delicious!

Want to try one for yourself? The Susquehannock Wildlife Society is hosting its annual Pawpaw Festival this month, where you can learn more about this local fruit, purchase pawpaw plants, and even sample foods featuring pawpaw.

It’s a fun way to taste something local and learn a little more about what grows right here in Harford County. Check it out!
