Message from the A.J. Baynes
As we move towards the halfway point in the year, now is the time every business owner and every employee should be looking at the goals that they set for the year to ensure you are still on the right track. The pandemic taught us that our best-laid strategies do not always go the way we plan. For those of you hitting the mark, keep up the great work, and keep striving to run past those targets.

For those of you falling a little short, there is plenty of time to place yourself back on track for success. Use this week to reevaluate your goals and if they are still applicable given the current market condition; if not, set new goals to ensure success, but if you are falling short due to a lack of organization, it is time to reprioritize and dedicate yourself to achieving your goals. It is too easy to find excuses over the next three summer months that will only leave you further behind. If you are struggling to stay on track, take advantage of your chamber membership to meet with any of our staff members to help guide you in resetting your priorities. Read more here for upcoming events & important information!.

If you are traveling near the Bailey Kensington neighborhood, you will see a new mural created by 8 students and mentored by Buffalo Muralist Tyshaun Tyson. This mural was created on the side of a Horizon Health building that provides treatment to those struggling with mental health and substance use disorders. In an effort to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health-especially among today’s youth – the mural aims to bring positivity, brightness, and a message of hope to the Bailey Kensington neighborhood. The students are confident that this message will impact not only current patients and family members utilizing treatment but provide continued awareness and hope for our community members each and every day.

Celebrating 10 years
of Fitness in the Parks
It’s time to get moving with Fitness in the Parks!
Independent Health and the YMCA are celebrating their 10th season of offering free outdoor and online fitness classes, led by YMCA certified instructors. From now through September 30, people of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to safely join us in person or at home to get fit, have fun and enjoy the warmer weather.
Fitness in the Park is a community-based program that was designed to encourage physical activity and healthy lifestyles by offering free fitness classes in unique spaces – providing easy access and opportunities for people to start or continue their health and wellness journey. Since being launched in 2012, we have helped Western New Yorkers burn 8.2 million calories.
Here’s what Fitness in the Parks participants can expect this year:
  • 30 outdoor classes offered each week. You can find a class every day, except for Independence Day (July 4) and Labor Day (September 6).
  • 4 virtual classes to join from home each week. These classes can be accessed through the YMCA Buffalo Niagara Facebook page.
  • 18 park locations, including Bassett Park and Garrison Park in Amherst.
  • 15 different class types, featuring Yoga, Pilates, Zumba®, Fusion, Kickboxing and more.
  • No registration is required. Simply show up at the outdoor class you would like to attend or join online.

For your safety, we are taking extra precautions and following New York state safety protocols for all outdoor classes to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all.
To view the full schedule, park locations and class descriptions, visit the Independent Health website. Day-of cancellations, due to rain or poor weather, will be listed on the YMCA Buffalo Niagara Facebook page.
