Meet Shannon and Zach, the groom and the bride who shared with me in person their Uni"Tea" ceremony as part of the wedding vow. I can't tell you how moved I was when I learned the significance of tea in their relationship and wedding. I asked Shannon and Zach to share the story behind their Uni"Tea" ceremony with our tea community. In their own words:
"From the very beginning, tea has been an important part of our relationship. At our first date, we started falling in love over a shared pot of White Peach Tea.
It’s possible this Uni”tea” ceremony is just an excuse for the couple to sneak a mug of tea into a busy day. True or not, making tea for each other is a consistent way that we communicated our love for one another. Zach knows that Shannon prefers black tea, without sugar, in a large mug filled to the brim. Unless of course she’s drinking iced tea in which case she likes to add so much sugar it could be bottled and sold as honey. Shannon, on the other hand, knows not to assume what tea Zach wants because his tastes change nearly hourly, but at least he’s fairly consistent in that he likes it steeped for five minutes and likes to add a little bit of sugar.
Who is making the tea largely depends on who has a cat in the lap, but this small act gives us each a chance to serve and show appreciation in turn. It is a way for us to demonstrate our love and understanding of each other, and by adding this personalized ritual into our wedding ceremony, we make a commitment to continue serving and appreciating one other to the best of our abilities."
What do you think? Tears in your eyes like me? I love hearing tea moment stories like this and learn that so many of us love tea and recognize how tea moments fill up the cup of our souls. Do you have tea moment stories you would like to share with the tea community? Please reply to my email and tell us your story!
