MARCH 2026 | MONTHLY NEWSLETTER | | |
Dear Orange County Community,
As we welcome the month of March, I am reminded that this season is not only about growth in nature it is about growth in our students.
Across our academies/pathway, young people are stepping into moments that will shape their futures. They are competing at state levels, advancing to national stages, engaging with industry professionals, leading initiatives on their campuses, and discovering strengths they did not yet know they possessed. In classrooms, laboratories, workshops, and community spaces, confidence is forming quietly but powerfully.
At High School Inc., we often speak about career readiness and workforce development. But at its heart, our work is about something deeper. It is about helping students believe they belong in the rooms where decisions are made, innovation is created, and leadership is exercised. It is about providing experiences that transform uncertainty into clarity and potential into purpose.
Students are preparing for competitions through HOSA, SkillsUSA, ProStart, and Virtual Enterprise. They have visited industry leaders like Amgen. Engaged in professional Lunch & Learn conversations, strengthening financial literacy skills, and participating in mentorship sessions designed to build trust and vision. Each of these opportunities represents more than an event it represents exposure, preparation, and access.
And access changes everything.
None of this momentum happens by chance. It happens because a community believes in young people. It happens because partners, volunteers, and donors invest not only in programs, but in possibility. Your support ensures that students from Santa Ana have the same opportunities to compete, connect, and lead as anyone, anywhere.
As we move further into this year, we do so with appreciation and determination. The path from classroom to career is clearer for our students because of you. Together, we are building more than pathways, we are building confidence, resilience, and a stronger future workforce for Orange County.
Thank you for walking alongside High School Inc. Your belief fuels this work, and our students feel it every day.
Sincerely,
Felix Lugo, MSM, CNP

| | High School Inc.'s Ambassador Program | | |
The HSI Ambassador Program continues to reflect students’ desire to do more for their schools and their communities.
At Century High School, Ambassadors have taken action by designing volunteer initiatives that directly support their campus from organizing campus clean-up efforts to finding meaningful ways to recognize and appreciate their teachers. Their focus is clear: they want to be change agents and lead by example.
At Valley High School, Ambassadors stepped into creative problem-solving. Students developed and pitched either a business idea or a social impact plan aimed at addressing challenges they see within their school or community. There was no single “right” answer; just thoughtful design thinking, innovation, and bold ideas rooted in real issues.
Across both campuses, our Ambassadors are demonstrating commitment, leadership, and ownership of their roles.
They are proudly representing HSI while actively working to make a difference in their schools and the communities they serve.

From the
MACC Farm
The MACC recently hosted a Sold-Out! Farm-to-Table Dinner, bringing together community members for an unforgettable evening under the stars. Guests dined on fresh, locally grown ingredients while experiencing the creativity and spirit that define our program. The evening was more than a meal it was an immersive celebration of food, art, and community. Guests painted portraits of one another on canvas, enjoyed a friendly contest for the best artwork, and participated in a hands-on culinary experience by crafting their own signature salad dressings to share at their tables.
Our MACC Club students truly made the night exceptional. They provided outstanding customer service, welcomed guests with professionalism, and ensured every detail of the evening ran smoothly. Watching our students confidently step into leadership roles hosting, serving, guiding, and creating was a powerful reminder of why this work matters.
That same leadership was on full display during a recent Community Schools Leading and Learning visit at Magnolia High School. Our students welcomed 70 guests and led guided tours of the MACC with confidence and pride. They spoke knowledgeably about our farm, our mission, and their internship experiences, highlighting the meaningful community-based learning happening every day in their classrooms.
It is an honor to witness their growth from students to ambassadors, from learners to leaders. Their confidence, professionalism, and passion continue to inspire everyone who visits.
| |
As we continue to expand our impact, we invite you to be part of this movement. The MACC is always seeking volunteers to help us grow fresh food for our community.
Join us on Fridays for volunteer days and experience firsthand the incredible work happening on our farm.
We hope to see you at our next farm-to-table dinner and in the fields alongside us soon.

Healthcare Academy Students Explore Innovation at
MD&M West
Students from Valley's High School Inc. Healthcare Academy had the opportunity to attend MD&M West, one of the nation’s leading medical technology conferences. The experience allowed students to see how the concepts they study in class connect directly to real‑world advancements in healthcare.
During the visit, students explored emerging technologies in robotic surgery, AI‑driven diagnostics, and next‑generation medical devices. They also learned about high‑growth career pathways in medical engineering, product design, and healthcare manufacturing, gaining insight into the wide range of professions that support patient care and medical innovation.
Hands‑on demonstrations and conversations with industry professionals helped students deepen their understanding of the tools, skills, and technologies shaping the future of healthcare. Many left with a broader sense of possibility and a clearer vision of the careers they may pursue.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Mary Tran, Chief Executive Officer at EXP – The Opportunity Engine, for making this experience possible and for her continued support of our students. Partnerships like these play a vital role in preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals and innovators.
| | OC Fellows Lunch and Learn | | |
On February 25, students in the Biomedical Science pathway at Century High School participated in an engaging Lunch & Learn experience with professionals from OC Fellows.
OC Fellows, a two-year leadership experience for early-career professionals committed to leading with purpose and impact across Orange County, brought emerging leaders from the biomedical field directly into the classroom. Students had the opportunity to hear firsthand about their career journeys: the steps they took to enter the industry, the challenges they faced, the lessons they learned, and practical advice for success in the field.
The session was thoughtfully structured to encourage connection and conversation. After an energetic icebreaker (where Fellows were spun around by students and challenged to solve a math problem at the board), OC Fellows rotated around to different tables for small-group discussions. These conversations created meaningful space for networking, thoughtful questions, and real insight into biomedical careers.
Students were fully engaged throughout the session, building authentic connections and expanding their understanding of the opportunities within the biomedical field. It was a powerful reminder of how exposure and mentorship can spark confidence and open doors for our future healthcare leaders.
| | Financial Literacy in Action at Century High School | | |
Our Biomedical Science students at Century High School recently had the opportunity to learn from Gabriel Orozco, Business Development and Financial Education Manager with the Santa Ana Federal Credit Union.
Gabriel has already made a meaningful impact with students at Valley High School, and we are excited to see his expertise reach even more young people across our academies.
During his visit, Gabriel led students through essential financial topics, including credit building, responsible borrowing, and the long‑term impact of financial decisions on major life milestones. His ability to translate complex concepts into clear, practical guidance equips students with the knowledge they need to make confident, informed choices as they prepare for adulthood.
We are grateful for Gabriel’s continued partnership and his commitment to supporting all of our academies. His dedication helps students build strong financial foundations, no matter which career pathway they pursue.
Thank you, Gabriel, for sharing your time, expertise, and genuine care with our students. Your contributions make a lasting difference in our community.

Freshman Healthcare Students Excel at the UCI Leadership Picnic Basket Challenge
Freshman Healthcare Academy students from Valley High School recently participated in the UCI Leadership Picnic Basket Challenge, an engaging, hands‑on experience designed to strengthen communication, teamwork, and leadership skills. From the moment they arrived, students demonstrated maturity, focus, and a genuine enthusiasm for learning.
Throughout the day, students took part in a series of collaborative activities. One highlight was the blindfolded puzzle challenge, which required teams to rely on clear communication, active listening, and trust, skills they demonstrated with confidence and composure.
Students also worked in groups to plan and prepare a healthy meal, thoughtfully discussing ingredients, nutritional value, and presentation. They then presented their dishes to judges and peers, explaining their choices with clarity and professionalism.
Beyond the structured activities, students built new connections, supported one another, and stepped into leadership roles in meaningful ways. Most importantly, they embraced the experience with curiosity and joy, making the most of this opportunity to grow both personally and academically.

High School Inc.'s
Mentorship Program at
Valley High School
On February 26, the HSI Mentorship Program launched at Valley High School with 12 committed 9th graders who chose to show up for themselves and their growth.
We are so thankful for our mentors, Marshall Linn and Antonio Martin, who immediately stepped in and began building meaningful connections with their groups.
The session focused on Getting to Know You, creating intentional space for students and mentors to learn about one another and begin forming trust. Students quickly recognized that even when we don’t know each other well, we often share more similarities than we realize.
The session concluded with the creation of the Mentorship Code. Each student and mentor wrote their commitment to the space on a puzzle piece “In this mentorship space, I commit to…” along with one word describing how they want the space to feel. As the pieces were brought together, one unified code was formed.
It was a strong and intentional start to building a mentorship community rooted in commitment and connection.
