November is known as the month of giving thanks in many ways. Although we have all had a couple of especially tough years, we still do have a lot to be thankful for. We hope that you have special celebrations of thanks with family and friends for the good we have been blessed with in life and that these times are joyous, loving and delicious. Please take note that the Center will be closed on Thanksgiving, November 25 and Friday, November 26.

We will be offering a one time program Balancing Your Energy with Food & Yoga on Monday, Dec. 6 from 11 am - 12 noon. To find out more please call the Center.

We want to share that the Dempsey Collaboration has extended the Chair Yoga program with another four-week session from November 18 - December 16 - there will be no class on Thanksgiving, Nov. 25. Please see details below.

We want to remind everyone of our mask policy here at the Center, especially with the rise in COVID cases throughout Maine. Everyone who enters the Center must wear a mask and follow social distancing practices whether or not you have been vaccinated for the time being. This is the current recommendation from the Maine CDC. We will be following these guidelines until further notice.

If you have any questions, need assistance or just want to say hi, please feel free to call us at the Center at 207-664-0339 or email us at

We hope to see you very soon!

A Special Message From Our Executive Director
As I approach my 72nd birthday, I have decided to resign my position, effective sometime this summer, as Executive Director of the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center.

I am very proud of the work of the Beth Wright Center since it started offering programs and support services in September of 2004. These programs and services have made a difference in the lives of hundreds and maybe thousands of people living in Hancock and Washington counties affected by a cancer diagnosis. In fact, the work of the Beth Wright Center has made a difference in the lives of many people across the state of Maine outside of the two counties we serve.

I want to thank all the great and wonderful Board members, volunteers, donors, partner organizations, staff, and cancer thrivers I have come in contact with through the years for all you have done to help people affected by a cancer diagnosis. Your dedication, creativity, and passion have been an inspiration to me.

I am looking forward to a smooth transition to the next Executive Director, and we at the Beth Wright Center will keep you informed as that process evolves.

All the very best,
Michael Reisman, Executive Director

We are excited to announce the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center 2nd Annual Festival of Lights will kick off on Friday, December 3. This year the theme of the Festival is “A Starry Night”. There is no charge to attend the Festival, but donations are graciously accepted.
Last year the Festival of Lights gave many people in our community a time to reunite safely during the pandemic. Grandparents arranged to visit with grandkids, high school friends reconnected with each other, and neighbors visited with neighbors under the magical light show in the Center’s gardens and surrounding woods. More than 475 people attended the Festival, and $3200.00 was donated to the Center by those attending.
This year we are looking forward to seeing even more of our neighbors and friends during the month of December. The Center is excited to offer the community the opportunity to gather safely outside following COVID-19 guidelines to enjoy a night of surprise and wonder. This year the Festival of Lights will be held on Friday and Saturday nights from 4:30 – 7:00 on December 3, 4,10,11,17,18 and 31. We are requesting that people call the Center to make reservations or sign up online. This will allow us to safely hold the event.
We have enlarged the footprint of the Festival by investing in more outdoor electrical outlets and by buying more lights. Amy Reisman has been planning for months to make this year’s event even more special than last year.
In addition, this year we are partnering with The Grand as they present “Charles Dickens A Musical Christmas Carol – abridged” at the Festival. Join the cast for a short version of the classic tale of Scrooge and his journey of redemption. Performances will be at 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM each night of the festival Dec. 3rd through Dec. 18th.
Bar Harbor Savings & Loan, Darling’s Chevrolet, and Wallace Events are major sponsors for this year’s Festival of Lights.
To register please call the Center at 207-664-0339.
The Beth C. Wright Center does not charge for any of programs or services offered to people affected by cancer living in Washington and Hancock counties. The Center relies on the financial support of the Down East community to make these programs and services possible.
We want to share this is a Facebook post with you that we wrote when we shared a Stanley Subaru post today:

Beth Wright Center:
We are honored to be chosen as one of the Stanley Subaru recipients of their Share the Love program. We say thank you to your community committed partner for thinking of us and most of all for our guests, our family, friends and neighbors affected by cancer. It is organizations like Stanley Subaru that help make it possible to what we do.

Stanley Subaru:
We believe in making the world a better place. We believe wholeheartedly in making our community a better place at Stanley Subaru. We want to help others who feel the same way. Luckily, there are so many local organizations that do. We are proud to support groups improving the quality of life of our communities.

Share the Love
For every new vehicle sold or leased between now and January 3, Subaru will make a sizeable donation to the charity of your choice. At Stanley Subaru, we added two wonderful local partners: Birdsacre and the Beth C. Wright Center for Cancer Care.
And when one of our guests selects a local charity, Stanley Subaru will make an additional donation to support them!

Service to our community
Not currently in the market for a car? No problem. For every Subaru vehicle routine service visit during the Share the Love Event, Stanley Subaru will donate $5 to our Hometown Charities!

We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who participated in the Downeast Living With Cancer Conference! Many of us think that this was our most successful, interesting and information filled conference yet, considering the current world situation. It all came together quickly and everyone worked together to make it happen. We had great attendance! Keep your eye out for announcements about the next conference that the Maine Cancer Series is planning for Spring 2022. If you attended the conference and did not fill out our survey, you can try to here. If the survey does not work, please call the Center for assistance at 207-664-0339.
