Summer

WFCCA NEWSLETTER

Volume 40, Issue 2, Summer 2022

President Letter

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to summer. My hope is that you all enjoy some fun in the sun with the children in your program, as well as lots of family time enjoying the outdoors! I know my kiddos are finally looking forward to some water fun. They have been anxiously waiting for a hot day or two since they all brought swimsuits.

As a board, we have been hard at work restructuring the newsletter to make it more appealing to include more info for providers like you, updating the website to include new board members, planning and preparing for our 2023 Conference, and working on trying to make some changes in licensing.

We need your help to make those licensing changes though. Please fill out and send the form letters that will be sent to you from WFCCA to DCF and your Legislature ASAP. Pass them along to others to send as well. We need many voices to make any changes, as this will help so many families with children in Wisconsin.

Have a terrific summer,

Tara Ebben

1000 Hours Outside:

Helping Children Succeed Academically

“We all know kids need nature time but emerging research is clear that children need to experience hours of outside free play every day. We are far from where we need to be,” writes Ginny Yurich, a homeschooling mom from Michigan who launched the 1000 Hours Outside movement.

How many hours do your kids spend outdoors in a year? While no one really needs one more thing to track, nature time for children is so extremely valuable for development that we cannot just leave it to chance.

The benefits of outdoor time go far beyond health. Spending time outside helps our children develop into enthusiastic academic learners. Read more.
