Letter from our Director - David Elkins

Safe Harbor Family,

Trust and obey, for there's no other way!

What a season we are living in from the economic struggles, the political rhetoric, and what seems to be a moral decay along with spiritual confusion. What to believe, who to trust?

The scriptures tell us in II Chronicles 7:14; My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways then I will hear from heaven I will forgive their sins and I will heal their land.

At Safe Harbor Jefferson County, we are seeing the end of our expansion project coming to a close. For a year now we have embarked on building three new cottages that will house 16 men each. A lot of hard work by the contractors, Safe Harbor staff and Safe Harbor clients. Only by the grace of God, trusting and obeying we are seeing the end result greater than all we asked our prayed!

Ephesians 3:20. Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all we ask or pray according to the power that works within us to him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations.

Be looking for an announcement soon for our Grand Opening ribbon cutting celebration. We want you to be there to celebrate with us as I know many of you have been praying and donating to see this project complete.

I want to take a moment just to say thank you to our many facilitators and volunteers who pour into our men's lives. Week in and week out you are there teaching them godly principles in life situations. And I know sometimes you think “are they getting this” but trust me, they are and you are impacting their lives, their families lives, and their futures in Christ! Thank you.

I close with a statement from the great Oswald Chambers My Utmost for His Highest October 10th.

All of God's revelations are sealed until they are opened to us by obedience. You will never get them open by philosophy or thinking. Immediately you obey a flash of light comes. Let God's truth work in you by soaking in it, not by worrying into it. The only way you can get to know is to stop trying to find out and by being born again. Obey God in the things He shows you and instantly the next thing is opened up one reads volumes of the work of the Holy Spirit when 5 minutes of drastic obedience would make things as clear as sunbeam.

Trust and Obey!

Blessings,

Pastor David

Celebrating Success

Graduation is a time to celebrate success and reflect on the journey that brought them to this moment. Each graduate's story is unique, filled with challenges overcome, lessons learned, and personal growth achieved. As we honor these accomplishments, it is essential to recognize the effort and determination that have led to this point.

The path to graduation is often fraught with obstacles, from rigorous demands to personal struggles. Overcoming these challenges requires resilience and a support system of friends, family, and mentors who provide encouragement and guidance along the way. Reflecting on these experiences highlights the strength and tenacity that each graduate possesses, qualities that will undoubtedly serve them well in their future endeavors.

As we celebrate this achievement, it is also an opportunity to look forward to the future with optimism and ambition. Graduation is not just an end but a new beginning, opening doors to exciting opportunities, and personal growth. It is a time to set new goals and pursue dreams with the confidence that comes from knowing you have already accomplished something so significant. Congratulations to all graduates—your hard work has paid off, and the future is bright with possibilities.

Having a Servant's Heart

A servant's heart is a concept deeply rooted in faith, encompassing the virtues of humility, selflessness, and unwavering dedication to serving others. At its core, having a servant's heart means putting the needs and well-being of others before your own, driven by a genuine desire to make a positive impact in the lives of those around you.

Baptisms

During the 2nd Quarter 10 men were baptized in Jefferson County. We celebrated the beginning of a new chapter for these clients, as they publicly professed their faith through baptism.

We are so excited to watch their new life in Christ!

Client of the Quarter

"I am 28 years old. When I was young, I was a pretty good kid. But I never had any positive role models or stewards, my father was never in my life. I never had a father figure either, leaving me surrounded by people who I never wanted to turn out to be like.

As I grew older, I went through a lot of negative things that children should never have to go through or witness. I seen a lot of violence all the time. I was surrounded by drug use, by people selling drugs too. As a matter of fact, some of the people that I looked up to were drug dealers. I didn’t have the normal support that a teenager should have, so by the time I got to high school, I thought it was just the normal way of life. I had to grow up quick, I never really got the chance to be a kid. These events led to me selling drugs at a young age.  Eventually I started stealing, which quickly escalated into an eight-year sentence and probation.

Over the course of a few years, I developed a drug addiction. I ended up violating probation repeatedly, until I was sentenced and done five years, over the course of four violations.

The last time I was incarcerated, I did three years. During this time, I made a choice to change my life and put all the negative stuff I used to do behind me. When I made parole, I decided to come to Safe Harbor. This opportunity was a turning point in my life.  I developed a stronger relationship with God.  I found the freedom of breaking free from drug addiction, discovering a purpose by being a better father and taking care of my children, and making a difference by showing other people who are going through the same situation as me that anything is possible through Christ." ~ L.B.

Staff of the Quarter

My staff work tirelessly day in and day out. There's nothing I ask of them that they're not willing to do, but greater than that I usually don't have to ask. They see something that needs to be done and do it.

Please, when you see a staff member at Safe Harbor Jefferson County let them know how great a job they're doing because they are awesome!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Partner of the Quarter -WASCO

We would like to nominate Wasco as partner of the quarter. Safe Harbor of Jefferson County has been a partner with Wasco over ten years now. Year after year Wasco has continued to show up and provide good solid employment for clients in our program. Wasco works hand in hand with us by placing some of our clients in key labor positions. We aim to work many years to come. Thank you Wasco for being a most faithful partner.
