Dear Friends of Assistance League of Inland North County,

Allow me to introduce myself. As of June 1, I am honored to serve as the new president of the Assistance League of Inland North County. I’ve been a member of the organization since 2020 and led our Operation Duffel Bag program for two years before joining the board as President-Elect last year. I am retired, having enjoyed a 35-year career in the medical device/diagnostic industry. I am grateful to have found an organization that offers so much purpose, opportunity to serve, and friendship in this next chapter of life.

We are an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that serves children and families in need in the inland North County region through our (now) eight philanthropic programs. In our last fiscal year, our programs returned over $330,000 to our communities and served over 25,000 people. This is only possible because of your generous support. Whether by patronizing our thrift shop or through monetary donations or grants, your contributions continue to have a positive impact on those who need our help within our service area – which covers over 400 square miles, from Poway to Fallbrook, and Warner Springs to Vista. Please enjoy the following message from our Immediate Past President, Diana Towne, and our Annual Report, included herein, which details our service efforts over the past fiscal year (June 2023-May 2024). I look forward to a new year of serving our communities alongside our tremendous volunteers, friends, and supporters.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly if you have questions about who we are and what we do. And if you have the heart and the time to volunteer with us, we would love to hear from you!

Gratefully,

Jorgine Ellerbrock

Thank You

Dear Friends,

Over the past several years, our nonprofit faced new, dynamic challenges, much caused by health and economic crises that affected our members, our donors, community partners and our Thrift Shop clientele. But we managed to keep our programs going, staying relevant, and with hearts full of hope that our mission to transform the lives of children and adults through our community programs, we would persevere. And we did and continue to do so. Our vision is that when essential needs are met in the community, families, and individuals flourish

ALINC has a long history of providing to communities in Inland North County. Although this year wasn't as profitable as years past, I proudly report that we put $333,122 back into the local communities through our programs - evidenced by the 2023-24 Annual Report attached. For a more in-depth peek at what happened this past fiscal year and others, you are invited to visit our webpage at:  https://www.assistanceleague.org/inland-north-county/about-us/ to view and read our financial information, view information about our programs, or become a member

Our Thrift Shop is the main fundraiser for our organization and is open weekly, on Tuesday and Friday and the first Saturday of every month from 10 am to 4 pm. You are encouraged to stop in and shop with us and, better yet, donate your gently used items between 10-2 during our hours of operation.

Serving alongside generous and committed members of this organization has been a great privilege. As a two-term president, a commitment I made and hold dear to my heart, serving on our board of directors was one of the most fulfilling accomplishments of my life. I know we will see great things from our new President, Jorgine Ellerbrock. Thank you for supporting us, and her. We hope to see you at our Thrift Shop and other community events.

Diana Towne, Immediate Past-President

Scholarship Successes

Thank you for reviewing the Annual Report. Before we wrap up this newsletter, please take a moment to meet a few of our scholarship recipients. The Scholarship Committee looks at a number of students who are at a standstill in their education due to daunting financial barriers to determine how our limited funds would best be distributed among so many worthy applicants. These three individuals are just a small sample.

Carlos

Carlos S. is not your typical student; he is 53 years old and spent much of his adult life in and out of jail for various crimes related to drug problems. Three years ago, he was homeless and sentenced to jail for theft. He took a hard look at his life at the age of 50 and finally decided he didn’t want to repeat the cycle of drugs, theft, jail for however many years he had left. He became a model prisoner and took advantage of the help that was offered to him to get clean and sober and was released in 2022. He has remained sober for almost three years. With the help of Exodus Recovery and a Federal Work/Study Grant, he enrolled at Palomar College in the Welding Technology program. He is now a Teaching Assistant which helps him pay his rent and a Scholarship from Assistance League helps with his other expenses, including books, fees and study materials.  He made the Dean’s List and is on track to graduate in December. We wish Carlos the very best as he continues to chart his course for the next 50 years! With his drive and positive attitude, there is no doubt he will succeed.
