May flowers bring June hay fever? | | |
At long last the weather seems to be getting nicer, and that is wonderful because we have a full calendar of opportunities this month!
We are starting a couple of new groups this month and hope you will find them interesting, helpful, maybe even inspiring! The first one is called "Steps in the right direction." Its maiden voyage is on Saturday, May 3 at 10:45 am. and it will be facilitated by Dorothy Apple. She will start out at the Clubhouse if you would like to join her. I will also be distributing journals so you can keep your own log. Remember -- any step counts. Housework, gardening -- if you're taking steps, they count. If you need a pedometer to keep track, let me know. If you have a smartphone and/or a smart watch, you will be able to use those to track. At the end of the month we'll compare your logs and will hand out prizes like, "Most steps" or "Most improved stepper." See Beth for journals and pedometers.
Another group we're starting is for those of a Ornithological bent is our monthly "For the Birds" group. The first meeting is on May 21st at 2:30 pm. If you enjoy the birds come and join us!
We've also included a Bible study on Tuesday, May 6 at 2:00 pm, a movie series on Sunday afternoons, a Mother's Day Brunch and the list goes on and on. We hope you enjoy these additions and please let us know what you think.

Are you an aspiring artist?
We have an artist corner in the clubhouse to showcase artwork from residents and area artists as well. Maybe some of you non-artists will get the artistic bug too! Each month we'll select an artist and will hold an opening reception where we can gather and they can discuss their art.
Our first featured artist was Jeanne Wagner and this month we will be featuring the work of Bob Apple. Please plan on joining us for his opening reception on Thursday, May 1 at 2:00 pm!

A Note from Hayley
Happy May!
We are looking forward to fresh blooms, sunshine and celebrating our wonderful mothers this month. We look forward to welcoming new residents to the community. Beth has been working to increase life enrichment opportunities for you, so I hope you take advantage of an event or two this month.
In April, I announced the promotion of Zach Ferran as the Director of Environmental Services for Prairie Landing and The Towne House. Mox Price was promoted to Maintenance Supervisor at Prairie Landing. Congratulations to both gentlemen! We ensure a smooth transition between duties. You will still see Zach on the property.
On a personal note, I will be getting married this month. My name will soon change to Hayley Compton. You can contact me all the same ways, but my email address will change later in the month.
As always, please let the Prairie Landing staff or I know if we may assist with anything.
Have a wonderful May!

“I want someone to look at me the way I look at tacos”

When I think of May foods, my mind doesn't go to burgers or brats on the grill. I don't think of potato salad or deviled eggs. Instead, I ponder Mexican food, and that is because of Cinco de Mayo. Cinco de Mayo is not an American holiday. Nor is it about Mexican Independence. Cinco de Mayo celebrates the Mexican army's victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. I know you must think I'm really smart to know that, but thank goodness for Google.
Regardless, it's almost impossible to get a table at a Mexican restaurant on May 5. That's why we're not even going to try. Instead we'll be celebrating by holding an ¡Extravagancia del cinco de mayo! For those of you who aren't fluent in Google Translate, that means a May 5th Extravaganza. We'll have our own taco bar with all the fixins' and drinks. Weather permitting, we'll have it out in the Pavilion. Hold on to your sombreros, friends!

A letter from Lori
We are already into the fifth month of the year! May is a great month of special holidays. We want to acknowledge all those we call mom and recognize all those who served in our military service to help keep our country safe. Both of these places of special honor usher us into another well anticipated holiday? SUMMER! Happy Mother's Day, Happy Memorial Day, and Happy Summer is on its' way day!
I don't know how you feel about snails but if these holidays don't do it for you, National Escargot Day is celebrated this month on the 24th of May. Escargot anyone ?
With the warmer weather, you will see us out and about more touring the neighborhood and getting some vitamin D! If you know of anyone who would like to visit, come to an event we have, or would like more information, let us know. We promise to put the red carpet out and make you proud! There is a lot to see as Spring opens up its glory. I have spotted people already getting their garden plots ready for this year's produce. The pickleball courts have already gotten broken in for the season. Spring and summer, Prairie Landing is ready!
Thank you everyone who attending the April open house in the model. It was a great afternoon, and I think fun was had by all. Appreciate all of you and your help with showing off our neighborhood!
Happy SUMMER, Prairie Landing!

Maintenance Matters
from Mox
Hello everyone! My name is Mox Price and I have worked for The Towne House for five years, and am happy to be here at Prairie Landing.
I will graduate with an Associates Degree in HVAC at the end of May.
| | | |
The emergency phone number has not changed, and if you do not have the number, please email me at mprice2@prairielanding.org and I will send it your way.
We will be continuing maintenance on dryers on April 29 and 30. So far we have found little build-up in the dryer vents.
Weather permitting, I plan on checking and cleaning everyone's air conditioner May 5-9.
Thanks,
Mox

What is ICON, and why should I care?
You may have heard about ICON when you moved in, or maybe when you were with residents who use it. ICON is an application that BHI Senior Living properties use to distribute information to residents and their families (if desired).
If you spend time on a computer and would like to learn more about Caremerge/Icon, we have trainings every other week on Tuesday at 2:00 pm.
