Gratitude in All Things”
with Rev. Jill Carey
On this Sunday before Thanksgiving, we visit the theme of the month, gratitude. Not only is gratitude essential to our spiritual health, it also opens abundant pathways in our lives. It allows the grace that has been spoken of already this month to be more readily visible to us. Let us approach the day in which we formally mark our gratitude with already overflowing hearts.

"Hope and Faith In All Things"
Rev. Jill Carey

This is the first Sunday of Advent, Christmas only weeks away! What better time, with our hearts filled with gratitude, for us to renew our faith and embrace hope. The “Season of Light” warms us - especially this year when last year was so quiet and isolated. We begin the season by looking to those qualities which bring us life and prepare us for the Christmas celebration.
Calling All Servant-Hearts!

It is time to nominate church members to serve on our Board of Trustees. There are three vacancies to be filled on our 2022 Board. If you feel called to serve Unity of Wimberley in this capacity and would be interested in running for one of these positions, please email the Nomination committee nominations@unityofwimberley.com.
A Board Nominations Packet to be emailed to you which will include:
  • A cover letter with information including a link to the church Bylaws
  • A candidate questionnaire
  • An Ethics for Board Members document, to be signed and returned with your questionnaire
  • Information about what is required of Board members
  • Permission for a background check, to be signed and returned

The deadline for completing and returning the application is Sunday, Nov 21, 2021.
As applications are reviewed, the Nominating Committee will arrange a time to meet with you in person. The Nominating Committee slate of candidates will be announced no later than 30 days before the Annual Meeting on January 23, 2022.

For the Wednesday evening class in November, Revs. Jill Carey and Kit Holmes invite us to collectively practice gratitude by using the "Start with Gratitude" journal. Ready to Reconnect?

We've all felt the strain of being apart from each other and away from "The Hill" over the last 20 months. Did you know that volunteering is the quickest and easiest way to meet new friends and reconnect with old ones? And it's a fun way to serve! As Unity of Wimberley opens up again, we have numerous opportunities for you to help re-energize and grow our community! We are looking for volunteers for our Welcome Team, Grounds Team and Social and Fundraising teams. The Youth and Family Ministries Department (YFM) is also looking to fill staff and volunteer positions. Please email Llea at business@unityofwimberley.com to get involved!
A Note from Rev. Jill

Dear Friends,

Happy Thanksgiving month to all of you! Your loving presence and the tenacity of our community are at the top of the list of
the many things for which I'm grateful! We have made it through this pandemic intact, which has not been the case, unfortunately, for many churches in this country. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your continued spiritual (and financial) investment in Unity of Wimberley.
Here is a recap and subsequent action plan regarding the HUG (Help Unity Grow) meeting held online and in-person on October 13, 2021:
Questions for consideration were sent to all members via email prior to the meeting. These questions were intended to provide a focus and structure for discussion during the meeting. It also allowed for those unable to attend to participate.
We received three emails before the meeting, with just one of them following the suggested format. Thirteen people (not counting Board, ministers, and staff) attended the meeting in person.
Of the 64 online views, 56% watched live, and 44% watched the recorded version. Out of a program lasting about two hours, the average view duration was 30 minutes. Forty views were unique or first-time views (non-members, or members who have never watched before). Thirteen views were from out of state. This means that a surprisingly small number of our regular membership participated.
Everyone present acknowledged the many losses that were experienced during the pandemic/shut down: loved ones and friends, our collective energy, hugs, live music, the children and young families, social and food events, cohesion, the pool, in-person classes, the women's retreat and, clear direction. (Some of these terms were non-specific.)
The distress over the pool's closing was distilled down to a lack of communication from the Water Team as it was in the process of research and conclusion and, that results were announced after the team and Board made the decision to close the pool. This led to a discussion of the ongoing, far-reaching problem of not everyone reading the information provided through the church's many platforms (newsletter, website, Facebook Resource Group, Sunday announcements, etc.). Staff and leadership will continue to work toward even more transparency while keeping in mind that not all will like the decisions or processes leading to them.
Responses to the prompt about how members feel Unity of Wimberley is NOT serving them well included the insufficiency/inconsistency of outreach to members. However, responses indicated it DID do a good job in providing consistent, quality online services and classes.
The following areas/teams were suggested as we "restart" the church: keeping YOU (Youth of Unity) involved after they graduate from high school; having team leaders report to the Board, or having Board members attend one or more team meetings to stay abreast; property; social; fundraising; finance; care; community outreach (involvement in local interests); guest integration/mentoring matches; recruitment; outdoor holiday gathering; big-screen broadcast of services outdoors. Even if most of these teams are already in existence, the input above led to a "new look" work session in the October 18 Board meeting. One of the significant takeaways was the need for a Volunteer Coordinator. Progress is already being made in recruiting an interested new member to fill this role. In addition, we are looking to restore Sunday coffee/cookie service in November and volunteers are being recruited to handle this. Our administrator Llea has compiled all the information regarding grounds, flower beds, wildlife exemption, etc., to augment team leadership. Applications have begun to come in to fill the Youth and Family Ministries staff positions, even as we seek a permanent leader and rotating volunteers.
In conclusion, the HUG meeting was the "kickoff" to a time of renewed vigor and engagement. As we enter this holiday season, we look forward to new life, love, energy, and excitement as we come together again.

Much love and many blessings,

Rev. Jill

We offer our heartfelt thanks to the "A/V Angel" who so generously donated the resources to replace (and super-size!) the large-screen TV monitor for the Fireside Room. The previous monitor was damaged by electrical surges from lightning storms in October.
