Summer Volunteer Celebration

Hello Jenna,

You are cordially invited to KWAG's Summer Volunteer Celebration on Thursday, 31 August, at 6:00 pm. Collectively, the KWAG Volunteer team reached 1000 hours for 2023 this July. This evening is the Gallery's annual Volunteer appreciation event – a chance to celebrate your fabulous selves!

The Celebration will start with a volunteer team meet-and-(re)connect, followed by a mixed-media art workshop led by Phan Truc, former volunteer and now Artist Educator at KWAG. We will make our own magical mini-terrariums after viewing the latest exhibition, SOS: A Story of Survival, Part II - The Body. Mini pastries, dietary-friendly cupcakes, tea and pops are also in order, plus thank-you giveaways for attendees. There will also be a chance to learn about volunteering opportunities in the coming season. The event will wrap up around 7:45 pm, which gives everyone ample time to dive into conversations.

Don't forget that the Gallery is open on Thursdays from 9:30 am to 9:00 pm. We would love to see you pop in early to say hi or linger around.

Please RSVP by replying to this email or by clicking on the button below. Volunteers are welcome to bring a plus-one interested in connecting with the Gallery.

Dress Code: Nature-inspired.

Mini Terrarium

Phan Truc (they/them), is a former volunteer and now Artist Educator at KWAG. Phan will help attendees create mini terrariums with moss, river rocks, flower petals, branches, mushrooms, and magical creatures.

About Phan Truc: I am Phan Truc - an artist from Vietnam. My artistic practice currently includes virtual reality painting, oil on canvas, and ink-wash.

My goal is to contribute to the conservation of traditional cultural practices by promoting the adaptive reuse of cultural heritages and folk arts. In this case, I use drawings, paintings, photographs, videos and creative writings as a means of storytelling to offer a way to connect us through all aspects of history to what essence we have for our future.

Thank you, KWAG Volunteers!

We are indebted to the volunteers who share so much energy and enthusiasm for art with us. A special thank you goes to all the volunteers coming to KWAG in the past two months.

We are having a beautifully jammed summer – with six weeks of Summer Art Camp electrifying the Gallery space, plus Art in the Park, which brings art far and beyond the white walls. Visitor Services Volunteers are on the front line of connecting people and ideas through art in the midst of the hustle and bustle. At the same time, Art Activity Volunteers' presence is crucial for us to secure a safe and engaging experience for all.

The Gallery is grateful to have received support from community members of varied age groups, diverse backgrounds and abilities. We will continue to welcome new members through the doors and strengthen our community roots.

Whether you just joined the team or you haven't been in for a while, we are excited to welcome you back and look forward to seeing you again.

Be there on Thursday, 31 August!
Volunteering weaves us together

Established in 1956, the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery (KWAG) connects people and ideas through art, drawing the community together into a shared experience of art that moves from sight to insight.

KWAG respectfully acknowledges that we are located on the traditional territory of the Attawandaron (Neutral), Anishnaabeg, and Haudenosaunee peoples. The Haldimand Tract, land promised to Six Nations, includes six miles on each side of the Grand River.
