A publication of the Mississippi Low-Income Child Care Initiative | March 2026

Dear CCLT Members and Partners,

We are grateful for your participation on our last zoom call. We are sharing below the recording as well as the PowerPoint Presentation shared by Policy Director Matt Williams.

Since we spoke, Senate Bill 2464, which would have required DHS to transfer 30% of TANF to CCDF every year, has died. While we don't have an update on the direct appropriations front, we continue to urge you to keep making your calls to legislators to amend the MDHS appropriations bill (HB 1909) to include additional state funds for CCPP. The deadline for the Senate to act on HB 1909 is March 17th, but action could take place before then.

Here is a short, effective call script parents, providers, and supporters can use when calling legislators about HB 1909 and funding the Child Care Payment Program (CCPP). It’s designed so callers can deliver it in 30–45 seconds.

📞 Call Script

Hello, my name is [Name], and I live in [City/County].

I’m calling to ask Senator/Representative [Last Name] to support amending HB 1909 to include $60 million in state funding for the Child Care Payment Program (CCPP).

Child care is essential for Mississippi’s workforce. Our community depends on affordable child care. Without stable funding for CCPP, many parents will lose access to child care and may be forced to leave their jobs. At the same time, child care providers are struggling to stay open.

Investing $60 million in CCPP will help:

  • More parents stay employed
  • More children receive safe, quality care
  • Employers retain a reliable workforce

House Bill 1909 is on the Senate Calendar. Your leadership is critical to keeping childcare strong in Mississippi. Thank you for your time and for supporting Mississippi families.

ABOUT MLICCI
In Mississippi, one of the biggest barriers to employment for low-income single moms is access to child care. Because we believe that no mother should have to choose between the job she needs and the child she loves, MLICCI works to improve the state’s child care assistance program and strengthen the financial viability of the child care centers that serve low-income mothers.
