Dear Friends of MEDICO:

No parent should ever wonder if their child will survive the journey to school.

In the remote community of Cocal, in Gracias a Dios, Honduras, many children leave their village and travel to school by small boat because there is no school within walking distance. The buildings they arrive at are little more than deteriorating shelters, offering little protection from the elements.

Recently, one of those children never made it home.

A student drowned while traveling to school.

That tragedy became a turning point.

When MEDICO learned of the community’s need, we knew this couldn’t wait. Cocal became one of our highest priorities for 2027. Our goal is to construct a permanent school and latrine so children in surrounding villages can safely walk to school instead of risking their lives on the water.

This school won’t be built for the community—it will be built with them. The people of Cocal have committed to providing the labor because they believe in their children’s education. The village already has dedicated teachers and students eager to learn. What they lack are the resources to build a safe place for education.

This isn’t a one-time project. It’s a lasting investment in generations of children. Built alongside the people of Cocal and sustained by local educators, this school will provide children with a safe place to learn for generations to come. Your gift doesn’t just build a school—it helps create a future where children can learn safely, families have peace of mind, and an entire community can have greater access to opportunities education provides.

Our goal is to raise $45,000.

Every gift matters. Whether you give $25, $100, $500, or more, your donation becomes more than bricks and mortar. It becomes a promise that children can learn safely. Will you join us in turning hope into a reality?

We appreciate your support!
