Help Me Grow National Center Joins ICS!

Help Me Grow National Center Joins the Institute for Child Success to Scale Innovation in Early Childhood Systems Nationwide

The Institute for Child Success becomes the National Center’s sponsor organization, expanding policy, data, and partnership capacity to advance coordinated early childhood systems across the country.

In a strategic step to scale proven early childhood innovations, the Help Me Grow (HMG) National Center has joined the Institute for Child Success (ICS), now serving as the National Center’s sponsor organization — uniting two national leaders to scale what works in early childhood systems nationwide. As communities and policymakers navigate tightening resources and shifting priorities, this partnership strengthens the national infrastructure that ensures children and families don’t fall through the cracks.

By joining ICS, the HMG National Center is uniting a proven, evidence-based model for building efficient, effective early childhood systems with a leading force in policy, data, and collective impact. The move underscores both organizations’ shared belief that systems change is most effective when grounded in evidence, driven by collaboration, and sustained by supporting the multi-sector leaders and implementers working every day on behalf of children and families.

“This partnership represents a moment of purposeful growth for Help Me Grow,” said Kimberly Martini-Carvell, Executive Director of the HMG National Center. “By joining the Institute for Child Success, we’re scaling what works — expanding our proven model for coordinated early childhood systems through strategic partnership, data-driven learning, and innovation. Our mission, team, and values remain steadfast, rooted in a shared commitment to equitable access and better outcomes for every child and family.”

“The Board of the Institute for Child Success views this sponsorship as a strategic investment in the future of early childhood systems,” said Calvin Calhoun, Chair of the ICS Board of Directors. “By aligning with the Help Me Grow National Center, we’re combining complementary strengths in policy, research, and implementation, creating the national capacity needed to sustain and scale proven approaches that help families thrive.”

“From its inception, Help Me Grow has always been about supporting families to promote their children's optimal development and wellbeing, linking families and children to community-based programs and services, and partnering across all child- and family-serving sectors to build comprehensive and integrated models responsive to families' and communities' needs.” said Paul H. Dworkin, M.D., Founder of the HMG Model and National Center and ICS Board Member. “This move to the Institute for Child Success builds on that vision, strengthening our ability to bring evidence, innovation, and partnership together on behalf of young children and families everywhere.”

About the Help Me Grow National Center

Founded in 2010, the HMG National Center supports a National Affiliate Network of 30 states and the District of Columbia to implement the HMG Model — the nation’s only recognized, evidence-based framework for building coordinated early childhood systems. The Model helps communities identify and support young children and families, ensuring that every child can thrive. www.helpmegrownational.org

Together, the HMG National Center and ICS are scaling what works — championing innovation, collaboration, and equitable access so every community is equipped to help every child grow and thrive.

Support ICS's Legacy of Success for Children During Our "Sweet 16"

As the Institute for Child Success celebrates our truly “Sweet Sixteen” milestone, we invite you to join us. Just as this age marks a turning point in a young person’s life, our 16th anniversary is a time for renewed purpose and a bold vision for the future. With your support, we plan to solidify our future in early childhood advocacy.

This anniversary is a testament to our community’s unwavering support, and we are proud to collaborate with our community partners on their wide-ranging needs and to provide immediate, rapid response support when unexpected challenges arise. This innovative work truly sets ICS apart.

To continue this vital work and remain a flexible, nimble resource for children and families, we are asking for your support of the ICS Innovation Fund. This fund is our strategic investment in ICS’s future—it allows us to:

  • Respond quickly when our communities need us most
  • Build solutions to urgent problems
  • Remain a mission-aligned haven for critical work

Your gift to the ICS Innovation Fund will ensure our mission continues moving forward with the agility and responsiveness needed to face both current and future challenges. This is about giving us the flexibility to do what we do best: see a problem, act quickly, and build a solution that gives children a strong start in life.

Please join us in making this a truly “sweet” celebration for the children we serve. Your partnership will help ensure that more children have the chance to experience hope and opportunity. To support ICS’s work on behalf of children and families across the nation, click the link below.

ICS Helps Nonprofits Navigate Federal Funding

ICS recently hosted a discussion to help nonprofits navigate the current federal funding landscape, in the webinar "Navigating Federal Funding for Nonprofit Human Services: South Carolina Deep Dive."

The session was hosted by Megan Carolan, ICS's Executive Vice President of Policy Research, and GP McLeer, Director of Public Policy & Community Engagement at TogetherSC. The discussion focused on 2025’s unique funding landscape, from reconciliation to the October shutdown. This included trends in federal human services funding to understand the specific challenges at the state and county levels. Presenters also offered tools for organizations to navigate funding challenges, as well as facilitating connection and collaboration among attending organizations.
