Help Preserve the History of Lowell High

From the Desk of LHS Alumni Member, Stephanie Donahue

Lowell became a town in 1826. The town fathers established the High School even before we became a city in 1836. It is a tribute to their belief that education was an essential element in any town.

As Alumni of Lowell High School, you are part of a proud history. In 1831 (194 years ago), the High School became the first coeducational high school in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. In the 1840s, it became the first high school in the country to be desegregated. Our Alumni have been innovators in science and medicine, outstanding legal minds, military leaders, talented artists, and entrepreneurs. The Lowell Historical Society would like you to be part of preserving their stories and those of the High School as we approach our bicentennial.

Check Out Project LEARN's Impact Report

Our partners at Project LEARN believe that education is the key to a brighter future.

Last year, thanks to the support of Alumni members like you, they were able to deepen their commitment to career-connected learning, providing hundreds of students with hands-on experiences, mentorship, and equitable access to opportunities that will help shape their futures.

As we look ahead, we invite you to continue this journey with us. Together, we’re not just preparing students for the future; we’re creating a stronger, more equitable Lowell.
