Good News Update 240 - 5 February  2018

Stop the Decriminalisation of Abortion in Queensland
Last year's victory for life in Queensland was not only historic, it was miraculous!   The two Abortion Law Reform Bills that were put before the Queensland Legislative Assembly  by Independent MP for Cairns, Rob Pyne, were put to flight in a stunning defeat.

But even with this amazing victory for life, the battle to end abortion in Queensland is far from over.

In 2016 a united front of pro-life organisations in Queensland began to wage a massive campaign under the banner of Abortion Rethink .  At the same time many individuals and bodies, including the Canberra Declaration, were called to give evidence before the Abortion Law Reform Committee.

But, in God's timing, it was when  people all over Australia  prayed during last year's National Day of Prayer and Fasting on Saturday 25 February 2017 that the decisive breakthrough finally came.
This was Monday 27 February 2017, when an LNP Party Room voted unanimously to reject both Bills! Knowing then that his Bills faced certain defeat Rob Pyne withdrew them the next day.  This was the day before the Bills were to be debated and possibly voted on.
Andrew Smith, the Australian correspondent of LifeSite News, wrote   "this is the first time that a bill advancing the availabilty of abortion has been defeated in Australia" We thank God for this miracle for if passed the two Abortion Law Reform Bills  would have given Queensland some of the most horrific abortion laws in the Western world.
Please watch this inspiring account of the Miracle for Life through last year's National Day of Prayer & Fasting.

At that time, according to Parliamentary procedure, further attempts to decriminalise abortion would not be able to take place until at least the next term of Parliament. In a face-saving measure, the Labor Government Attorney-General submitted the existing abortion laws to the  Queensland Law Reform Commission to be  "modernised"

Very shortly after Labor's recent re-election to Government on 25 November 2017 the Queensland Law Reform Commission issued a Review of Termination of Pregnancy Laws Consultation Paper. After their review of the state's current abortion laws they will recommend new abortion legislation to the Government by 30 June.

Submissions to this Review are required by the close of business on Tuesday 13 February 2018. This is only seven days from now!

In politics numbers are important so please prayerfully consider making a submission. Even if you are not living in Queensland we encourage you to make your views known.  What happens in Queensland affects all of Australia!

Please pray -
  • that God will speak forcefully to the hearts of the members of the Queensland Law Reform Commission to recognise that when they keep referring to the "termination of pregnancy" they are actually speaking about the deliberate killing of innocent unborn human beings.  But that is not all.  There is the deep wounding of the hearts of their mothers and the disempowering of their fathers as protectors and providers. Society pays a staggering price for state-sanctioned killing.
  • for another miraculous victory for life in Queensland!
Please make a submission to the Queensland Law Reform Commission in which you can express your view on any or all of the twenty questions posed in the above mentioned Review of Termination of Pregnancy Laws Consultation Paper.

Here are some top tips and helpful resources provided by Cherish Life Queensland to help you make a submission. Also listed here are the twenty questions to prayerfully consider.  You must choose and answer at least one of these or your submission will be rejected. You must also include your postal address to validate your identity and to give them a means to contact you.

You can send a hard copy of your submission to -

for the rights of all who are destitute.
Speak up and judge fairly;
defend the rights of the poor and needy"

May God bless you!
