Greetings,

Once again, critical medical research at the Department of Defense is in jeopardy, due to provisions that were included in the Senate-approved National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

We are therefore asking that you reach out to your Senators to urge them to sign the bipartisan letter ( CLICK HERE to read the letter ) that is being circulated by Senators Richard Durbin (D-IL) and Roy Blunt (R-MO). This letter calls for the exclusion from the final NDAA of four provisions that—if enacted—would weaken the Department of Defense’s medical research program, jeopardizing health care for warfighters, veterans, and their families both now and in the future (these provisions are fully explained in the text of the letter).

Please use the sample message text below and contact your two Senators Today! ( CLICK HERE to find your Senator). It's important to customize your message to include your personal experience with prostate cancer and how important research is to finding a cure.

SAMPLE MESSAGE:

Dear Senator (LAST NAME),

As a man diagnosed with prostate cancer, I am writing to express my concern about several provisions included in the Senate-approved National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that would severely restrict, and perhaps even prohibit, the Department of Defense from conducting research on prostate cancer and other important medical conditions.

Specifically, I urge you to sign the letter that's being circulated by Senators Richard Durbin (D-IL) and Roy Blunt (R-MO). This letter ( CLICK HERE to read the letter ) calls for the exclusion from the final NDAA of four provisions that—if enacted—would weaken the Department of Defense’s medical research program, jeopardizing health care for warfighters, veterans, and their families now and in the future.

[NOTE: PLEASE INSERT HERE some of your personal story about prostate cancer and the importance of research funding. Emails that do not contain at least a paragraph of personalized information will go into a “form letter” filter in the Senators’ email systems, which still has value but is not as effective].

Please contact either Rob Leonard in Senator Durbin’s office at Rob_Leonard@durbin.senate.gov or Dan Burgess in Senator Blunt’s office at Dan_Burgess@blunt.senate.gov by Thursday, October 5 to sign onto this important letter. Thank you in advance for your support of medical research.

Sincerely,

(YOUR NAME)

Please note that there's no need to contact the following Senators who have already agreed to sign the Durbin-Blunt letter:

AK Murkowski
CA – Harris
CT – Murray
DE – Coons
GA – Collins
IL – Durbin
KS – Moran
MA – Markey

MI – Stabenow
MO – Blunt
MT – Tester
NH – Hassan
NH – Shaheen
NY – Collins
RI – Whitehouse
