Dear Debbie,
Students for Voting Justice is marking its 5th year of engaging young people in getting out the vote while training them to become the democracy leaders of tomorrow. Your unwavering and loyal support has made all of this possible!
This summer, we have 44 incredible students from North Carolina A&T, Howard, Spelman, Morehouse, Hampton University and other colleges in the South getting out the vote in Georgia and North Carolina – two states that are on every list of where Black and youth voter turnout will have the most impact. Our interns are engaging their peers in postcard writing and they are reaching young unregistered potential voters through phone banking. They are also designing powerful social media ad campaigns to boost voter registration and turnout among young people of color in NC and GA. We have terrific volunteer mentors from varied professional backgrounds paired up with our interns to guide them in their organizing and creative work. The intern/mentor relationship has always been a key driver of our success.
Fall plans with current budget – we are on course to bring on 80 paid college interns with a goal of writing 80,000 postcards, making 40,000 phone calls, and reaching 500,000 young people with effective intern-designed social media ads.
WE CAN DO MORE IF WE HAVE MORE RESOURCES – with additional funding, we can effectively reach ALL 2 million young people residing in GA and NC with our powerful social media ad campaigns! Every additional $10,000 raised would allow us to reach an additional 100,000 more young people with Instagram messages about the importance of registering and voting in the upcoming election. With voter turnout among Gen Z top of mind, we know that we can positively impact election outcomes with persuasive and creative peer-to-peer contact on social media.
