Dear Hudson Link Supporters,
At Hudson Link for Higher Education in Prison, we're all about transformation. The college classes we bring into New York State prisons transform our incarcerated students' beliefs about themselves and what they are capable of achieving. While enrolled in our program, students gain new insights and knowledge about the world around them and prepare for productive, law-abiding lives after release.
Higher education has a transformative ripple effect that extends beyond individual students
. The correctional facilities we operate in become safer, more hopeful places to live, study, and work while preparing for what comes next. So many of our students are the first in their families to go to college, but they are rarely the last: their children, nieces and nephews, and even siblings are inspired to follow in their footsteps and try college themselves. The result is healthier communities all over New York State - inside prisons and out - that have been transformed by the power of education.
Our twentieth anniversary year has also been a time for us to reflect on how we have transformed as an organization over the last two decades. From one small class at Sing Sing to over 600 students across the state, Hudson Link has certainly grown in size. Now offering pre-college, two-year, and four-year degree programs as well as Alumni Services for both men and women, we have also grown in scope. With over 800 Hudson Link students now released - pursuing graduate degrees, working in the human services field, reconnecting with their families, and giving back to their communities and to our program - it is clear to us that our reach and impact have grown tremendously over the last twenty years as well.
These reflections on transformation have us thinking also about what growth and change the next twenty years will bring. With nearly 50,000 people still incarcerated in New York, Hudson Link's work is nowhere near done. We must continue to reach men and women inside our prisons as well as be here to guide those who are on their way home. We do not know exactly what the next twenty years will look like, but we hope to play a meaningful role in shaping a more positive future.
What we do know for sure is that we could not have made it this far without the love and belief of our generous supporters. Your contributions make it possible for our students to achieve unthinkable success for themselves, their families, and the people whose lives they touch before and after release. We know too that we need your continued support as we start our second twenty years changing lives through education.
Please consider donating today
to ensure that the important work of Hudson Link continues in 2019 and for many more years to come. Your support means the world to us and to our students, whose personal transformations radiate to their families, their communities, and our society at large.
Warm holiday wishes,
