Summer is in Full Swing

Cultivating Change through Summer Markets, Education, and Empowerment

Summer is in full swing, and Soulful Seeds is growing more than fresh produce—we’re growing community.

This month we will begin our Mobile Food Markets, bringing garden-fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs to neighborhoods where healthy food isn’t always easy to find. Thanks to support from the Sprouts Healthy Community Foundation, all offerings are free—and we’re excited to share recipe cards that help turn fresh ingredients into nourishing meals. Our Mobile Food Markets aren’t just about food—they’re about dignity, connection, and access for all. We’re grateful to grow alongside you.

In June, our team has been busy creating engaging programs and growing beautiful, nourishing food for those who need it most.

We harvested 1,277 pounds from our gardens, fueling both our Mobile Markets and local food pantries.

Forty new volunteers joined us, adding fresh energy and helping deepen our community roots.

We hosted 118.5 hours of garden education workshops, offering hands-on learning to participants of all ages.

And our Same-Day Work and Pay participants contributed 61.75 hours to maintain our growing spaces—providing meaningful work and income opportunities to the communities we serve.

Garlic Goals

From Seed to Success

We’re celebrating a flavorful victory in the garden—over 700 pounds of garlic harvested so far, thanks to the dedication of our staff and with the help from our incredible volunteers who planted last year’s crop with care and commitment.

But the bounty didn’t stop there. In partnership with TMCC’s EPIC program, we hosted an engaging community education class, where participants got hands-on experience learning all about garlic—from soil prep to harvesting techniques.

Leading the charge was none other than our resident garlic guru, Eartin Whitten, whose passion and expertise brought the lesson to life. With Earstin’s guidance, participants walked away not only with newfound knowledge, but with a deeper connection to the growing process.

Stay tuned for more workshops and garden updates—there’s always something sprouting!

Want to Get Involved?

Here’s How You Can Support!

As we dive into the heart of our growing season, there's still time to make a difference. If you haven’t yet given this year, it’s not too late to support our mission and help us finish strong. We’re gearing up for some of our busiest months, with new crop planting, harvesting, and food distribution to local markets, pantries, and campus communities.

Your support—whether through donations or lending a helping hand—ensures we can keep nourishing those who need it most.

Mark Your Calendar: Public Volunteer Day – July 26 Come get your hands dirty (in the best way possible) and be part of our mission in action. Let’s grow good together—because healthy food and strong communities start with you.

Thank You, UNR Extension

We extend our heartfelt thanks to UNR Extension for their generous plant donation. Last month, Earstin stopped by to gather a beautiful assortment of peppers, tomatoes, flowers, squash, cucumbers, and onions. Soulful Seeds is deeply grateful for UNR Extension's continued support in helping our gardens and mission thrive.
